Jeff, that looks terrific and the price is right, especially with the introductory discount. I can't justify trying to make something like that myself when it is so inexpensive from you. Cool. Do you have a weight estimate on these including the aluminum ferrule (but without the user provided tip a...

The next version will be full length, still two pieces, with the intention that it will work as a quintain lance or as a full-on historical lance. The joint will move forward though, to about 48" from the butt. There will also be a third version, about 5" long, all one piece, set up for 6 foot long ...

Awesome equipment! Now all I have to do is develop a jousting group around me so that I could use one. A noble pursuit, but you shouldn't rule out using one of these at the quintain. With a 3' solid dowel of either balsa or a wood like pine, these are basically what I use on the quintain for practi...

The replaceable tip is not included because there are several variants on what could be used. For a solid insert, 1-1/4" full round moulding is pretty easily obtainable from most Home Depot or lumber yards. Most people who would purchase these lances will use them with (possibly cut) balsa inserts, ...

Turned Hardwood Lances available from Historic!

Hi all, I have the lances in actual production now so I'm offering them at a special introductory price. We've refined the design and are REALLY happy with it. I'm so excited to have these going now and can't wait to joust with them myself! Completion is expected about November 1, 2006! Order yours ...

James (Richard Blackmore) is quite right; there are nutty Thoroughbreds and there are solid ones. On the average, though, they're too nutty and, as Jeff Hedgecock said, too light. But then, they've been bred to do one thing and do it well, and that thing ain't jousting. (They also usually have a bo...

I would say there are far too many factors involved to make generalizations about this, but don't worry too much about the activity of jousting as much as the other things you might do with the horse. I would expect that actual jousting time would be a relatively small percentage of the overall time...

And Jeff is wrong- without horsies there is no jousting, because clearly you can have "jousting" without a single reference to history. Ok, how 'bout........Without history and horses there is no jousting. Whether what those people are doing is jousting is debateable. It's not jousting in my book. ...

I have a feeling that attitudes like those presented by this article are some of the reasons people have avoided jousting for a long time; the thought that if you joust, you'll probably die, or at very least be seriously maimed. What absolute and utter CRAP. These guys think they'll die because they...

I have the sneaking suspicion that you're looking for public liability insurance for the AoC event in October? So they require PLI now, eh? Back when we took the Red Company to AoC they didn't require PLI, even with the horses we had. Surprising. We had it anyway back then, before OWLHF bit the dust...

If anyone has more information or such on the Cobb horses I'd be much obliged! Just Google "gypsy vanner horse" and you'll be able to find out all you need to know. Trystan, Regarding terminology, historically the term "jousting" refers to any single combat, regardless of whether it's on foot or horse. Tilting is a term that originated in the early 15th century with the introduction of the "tilt", that is the fence separating the two riders who run at each othe...

By the period I interpret, they actually WERE used to tilt with so just tell them you are Tudor/Elizabethan period and to shove off. I'm afraid the historical record doesn't support your position. a small "marketing" suggestion... perhaps you should put up a photo of the helmet from the side with the visor down? That's an important view which might be very valuable to prospective buyers.

I've jousted with these lances for 8 weekends and they've taken some pretty stonking hits, ferrule strikes and all.
