I have a set of Alan Bauldree Gaunts that I have had for fifteen years and that I dearly love. They are really old style, without the enclosed thumb that he uses now. I really, really reccomend AB gaunts.

Further, Frieman, the whole spear catching excercise at Niebelungen was what led to our young Landesknecht friend being carted off to hospital. He found himself sans spear, and in trying to catch one back he lunged forward to try a grab and met a stern spearshot coming back at him, missed the grab ...

fighter practice at the Shire of Blakrose, the East
Guys, I have been trying to find some information about FP in the Shire of Blakrose in the kingdom of the east for somebody on another message board. I encountered something a little odd. The local fencing marshal lists the times and locations of fencing practice, and lists his/her phone number on t...

I've stolen spears before, and had them stolen from me. It's part of the game. At the last Neibelungen Kreig (my spelling) stealing the defender's spears was the strategy the attackers used to get in through the castle gates. I had my spear stolen and had to steal it back. I used to be really good a...

I need to decide on a leather breastplate pattern
Guys, I have gotten back into sewing leather after a year or so out of it. For those who don' t know me, It is accurate to say that I am not an armorer, I am an SCA fighter. I like to stitch leather, and I am not afraid of multi week projects. Stitching leather is something that can be done while wa...

I have a few things that come to mind. First, is there a trumpeter from the local high school that might be hired to play a couple of fanfares? Probably for a few bucks? How about a fancy tabard for them. Perhaps somebody from the drama club to act as a herald, also with fancy tabard? This would pro...

Yeah, Nurnberg rocks for medieval stuff. The Germanische National Museum has a harp that could very well be the very harp that heronimous Bosche used as a model for his harp in "the garden of Earthly delights". The museum is about ten minutes from the train station. I would be willing to bet cash th...

It is important to actually learn the rules of the list and the conventions of combat. You will almost certainly not be asked anything ascinine like "What is rule number seven of the rules of the list". If you are asked something like that, and you don't know the answer (I wouldn't) then reply "All ...

Here is a primer for new fighters about authorization. It was written by Aethstan of Wortham, who is now the Earl Marshal of Drachenwald. Please understand that what works in Drachenwald might not work in your home kingdom.

Re: New ( or old ) Training Aid- camcorder
When I first started in the SCA (I can hear my dentures creaking now at 35) I was regulary getting pummeled. Oh, I had Dukes, Barons, Knights and Squires giving me advice on where to put this and where to put that and I took every word from their mouth like scripture from the heavens. BUT when I st...

I don't see a problem with left to right movement. Even if the fingers and metacarpal plates don't shift against the bell very well (and I don't mean to say that that is the case), they don't need to. The bell rotates around the wrist with movement of the hand. It certainly looks as if these gaunts ...

I have found that the fit of the armor is far more important than the weight. If armor doesn't fit, it will restrict your movement. If it does fit, then the weight becomes an issue. If it does fit, then the mass is carried in such a way that it is probably the easiest to carry. Make sure your armor,...

I think that this might be a time to work on fighting fundamentals. Work that spear a lot. Sword and board is a much maligned style at war.
