OK, I have something from the school of "get 'em on the field" armory. Please note that I do not do this anymore, but I have in the past. It's an old fighter's trick. The cheapest and lightest thing I have in my bag of tricks is a can. A beer micro-keg can be effective protection for the hand behind...

thirteenth century Scottish Roundsheilds
Guys,
I have seen a lot of modern talk about scottish "targes", or small round sheilds.
Were these used in the early part of the thirteenth century in Scotland? If so, were they center grips or side strapped?
And where should I lok to find more information?

Be careful to inspect the inside of the head on a nail rivet. Some nails (most noteably roofing nails, but some others do too) have "mold flash" that is left over from the forming process. An observation on sword grip - Trigger or Lanyard 2
Gentles,
Recently on this archive, I was asked a question concerning my use of a trigger in my sword baskets.
I had said that I found that the trigger on the sword allowed me to get the sword moving more rapidly from a standstill, as well as satisfying the “trigger or lanyardâ€

Drachus, Regardless of whether or not it counts as "period", I don't think that a "blade" style long coat out of heavy leather would work for fighting anyway.
