Well, I ain't proud of myself. I just talked to her. I brough up the possibility that fighting dispite a serious medical condition might be considered "a danger to yourself". I did not say that such a thing WAS "danger to yourself". I suggested that an authorization marshal might ask her (on her hon...

Elias, The lady in question has something nasty wrong with her right shoulder. As we get older, we get different pops and crackles in our joints, but this young lady is in her mid twenties and has more noise coming from her shoulder than I have heard from men twice her age. She says (and I believe h...

authorizations - medical question
Guys, I have a question. We have a new fighter in our local shire. She has "a shoulder with sound effects". She CAN fight sword and sheild, but not for very long. Extended sword and board fighting causes pain. She wants to authorize for heavy combat. Kingdom authorization rules indicate that she aut...

baking soda (romans?)
Guys,
I sort of asked this question a couple of months ago, but I believe that I asked it in the wrong fashion.
Does anyone know if the romans (or, for that matter anybody in period) used baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) at all?
Thanks
freiman

boiled linseed oil finishes on wood.
I just put a boiled linseed oil finish on a Saxon Lyre. This Lyre is based on the illustrations in the Durham Cassiodorus, rather than the Sutton Hoo ship burial. He difference is that the Cassiodorus illustration is round on the top and bottom while the Sutton Hoo Lyre is reproduced more or less fl...

Well, I asked around here at work (I am a teacher) and every single fourth grader in the survey said that the helms are "pointy and dorky looking" Fourth graders may be the perfect folks to determine whether or not a thing is actually "dorky looking". This does not mean anything except that the helm...

Therion, A litttle while ago we talked about the awesome black and white late period suit you had made a plastic copy of to go and play SCA stick stuff. It had no codpiece. I disagree with the majority of folks here on the board about sixteen gauge helms. I think that depending on where and how you fight, sixteen gauge is adequate. I use a sixteen gauge helm. Sebastian, I am a firm believer in smaller round sheilds, and I believe that a speed limit sign from the recyclery counts as "recycling", when you make a sheild out of it. Sir Nasr, our firmer Earl Marshall, used to use one like that. As for there being no knights in your area, were you aware that D...

I have had a beautiful set of gauntlets for about 10 years. Good Gentles, I went to a local store today and tried on some off the rack chainmaile. My wife had noticed it and told me that if I wanted it for Christmas she would get it for me.
