I really need to find a reasonable Japanese Helm
Guys, I have a buddy that is looking for a reasonable Japanese helm. He has been hunting for several months, with money in his pocket, and he can't find anything . He has been hunting for the perfect helm, but at this point, time is getting a little short. He would very much prefer not to wear a con...

Audax, Thanks for the post. As usual, there is a lot of really good stuff here. What I am getting from you is that you are very worried that I will burn out on my current training schedule. I am very worried about it too. I can only tell you that I am having loads of fun. You know me, my motto is &q...

Reading this and other threads I'm forced to ask: Are you taking proper care of your shoulders? With any intensive stickfighting regime you are at extreme risk for rotator injury either repetitive use trauma or subluxation due to muscular imbalance. What are you doing to prevent this? Gaston Sir Ga...

My program just got really complicated and time consuming. I ended up with it going in four different ways at once. I need to continue the fitness training. That is the price of the ticket. It is taking increasing amounts of time, but I have put a limit of three hours a day, total, to the amount of ...

Putting together a training program is tougher than I thought. I have never worked from planned, charted workout routines before, and that is necessary for this. I have started to put together a workout routine more times than I can count, and finished it three times, only to find glaring problems w...

Are you as committed as I am? Do you want to be a winner as much as I do? Do you deserve it? YOU DESERVE TO BE A WINNER. Nobody on the planet has any more right to be a winner than you do. It isn't about being better than anybody else. It isn't about being mighty. It isn't about anything hard, or co...

Servus! As a heavy fighter, I don not dislike fencing as a whole but I do have a significant problem with a few individuals within the fencing community who seem to demand equal time at every event and make a huge stink when time isn't set aside for them no matter what is going on. My favorite exam...

I started writing this on the tabula rasa thread, but it is more about my general program, so I am going to move it. The Audax quote is from that thread. I suspect that you are burning yourself out with your current regimen. One way to refresh your palate would be to not fight at all for a while. Tr...

I think that it's a matter of fit. Many folks out there are in used armor. Even when purchased new, it is very, very difficult to find armor that fits you perfectly. Off the rack stuff rarely fits perfectly, and even custom fabbed stuff needs quite a bit of fiddling to get exactly right. Even if you...

I have a pretty good method. First, pour a beer. Seriously. Then, take the empty beer can, and use is as a pattern to draw beer can sized circles on a sheet of foam. Then, take the end of your spear shaft, with the PVC cap on, and without it, and mark some of the discs with circles in the middle. De...

OK, I'll do that. I got one of my loaner helms back last night, and it fits me. It will take me at least two weeks to get the rig done, and it will be newbie gear. Tabula Rasa (please help me develop this)
Gentles, I am at a spot where I need to go back to a blank slate, and approach fighting as if I were a first timer. I need to totally reinvent myself. I need to go back, and approach fighting from the very beginning, and lay a firm foundation for more advanced techniques. I think that I am pushing t...

in fact, one of the guys training in our Scholum has been keeping a pictorial gallery of his bruises as a public display of pride in his progress -- not that I'm in any way, shape, or form condoning such public display of probably private or secret information, and it might be just a way to show-of...

Shin problems Ouch! I ran myself into a pair of those in college. Check your shoes. When the heels break down that can cause excessive stress on the shins and/or the knees. Well, I have hit a snag. I am having pain in my lower legs. Could be shin splints. It's probably just an inflamation at this point though. I figured that I could run through it, at first, but the quality of the discomfort changed to pain, and I stopped after only two miles. You can't push through an...

I think that your zeal does you and your knight much credit, but I think that you should talk to your knight about how to use your time. You have about three weeks until war. That time could be much better used getting ready to camp and having great soft kit. The reason to wait on the shield until a...
