budget asian armor question
I would like to build some body armor, mostly as something to do, but also because I some buddies that need it. Oddly, just about everybody seems to be interested in Asian armor. Now, I am just about flat broke. I don't have any extra money to spend on somebody else's armor. If I had any money, ther...

Sir Garrett, Bazu's work really, really well for SCA combat. They have become very popular over the last few years because of that. They conceal nicely for people portraying early period personas that wold not have worn any limb armor as well. They meet the gear requirements for every kingdom of whi...

Well I'm not planing on doing all the detail such as the leather dragons on the chest piece. Or the brass dragons on the shoulders. But every thing ells I'm planing on doing. Thus I do have one question. And that is what would be a good thickens for the leather? And for the question of the chainmai...

Actually, I have been looking at the pictures, and Yeah, I could make that. That is kind of a cool thing to realize. It would take me all winter. The body armor appears to be in four main sections. First, there is a heavy girdle that runs from hip height to about the solar plexus. We generally call ...

Lord Shadow, Yes, it would work quite well, with a few small modifications. You would have to add some sort of rigid protection to the elbows, and you would have to wear a throat protector, a helmet, and rigid knees, but that armor would work quite well. The throat protector (we call them Gorgets) i...

It also makes a wonderful doorstop or paperweight, and tenderizes steaks. Carried in the right hand, it causes muggers to find somebody else to mug, especially if you are covered in red, sticky fluid. It opens Beer Bottles. It kills Zombies. It doesn't make julianne fries, but the optional attachmen...

(Admiring the tool and wondering whether this is worth just to rivet about 2 rivets a year for strapping a helm......) Money aside, for the armoring challenged, how does it work? (meaning hand held? anvil held? etc? what part goes in....) Thanks! R Sorry, Rowan, this is going to come across as snar...

I have not, but I sure want to. Sadly, I think that it is unlikely that any Drachenwalders have attended either. Your best bets would be AdamStJohn (from this archive), Stacey Elliot(also from this archive), and Trev (from the lost boys). All three of them have played with the Poles in the past. App...

m It's not stainless, but if it fits, it is a remarkable deal. Check the fit first, of course. If not, go with Mad Matt. For prices like that, he might show up at your home and set the chin strap. He makes his living on customer service and being really, really predictable (almost bankable). Your ne...

You did ask for the cheapest. Ashcraft Baker has baskets in lift, right, or undecided for fifteen bucks. They have had some poor reviews lately, but they are the cheapest retailers of new baskets that I know of. For five bucks more, the range of retailers opens up considerably. Of course, used baske...

Audax, When I blew my knee out 2 years ago I was wearing a maille shirt, heavy leather arms with metal cops, leather legs with metal cops, a light weight aketon and my helm. Re: Illusion Armory gauntlets review
I just got a pair of clamshell gauntlets from Illusion, and I wanted to give my impressions. Quality: 5 - These gauntlets are a fantastic value for the money ($145 + shipping). The design is attractive and functional, and it's very well executed, with a smooth finish and slick articulation. I order...

Instead of publishing your pattern maybe you could say what your patterns were based off of and give some looks of the garment laid out so that the more historical minded would have an idea if they could use it. Well done. For a perspective that you might not have had cross you mind... I am badly color blind.
