Sorry, I guess that "Asian" is a little vague. I have one girl moving to Hawaii that wants to do Persian, at the time of the battle of the bridge, just as the army of Mohammed conquered the Sassanids. I have on guy in New York City that want's to do Japanese, I am unsure of which period he...

budget asian armor question

I would like to build some body armor, mostly as something to do, but also because I some buddies that need it. Oddly, just about everybody seems to be interested in Asian armor. Now, I am just about flat broke. I don't have any extra money to spend on somebody else's armor. If I had any money, ther...

Sir Garrett, Bazu's work really, really well for SCA combat. They have become very popular over the last few years because of that. I am sitting here grinning ear to ear. I went and rented the film. I might have said that before. I think that the costume guys got something kind of special when they chose to use the Terra Cotta Army as the bad guy's legion of darkness (or whatever). The movie script talks about the "ancient ...

Freiman, agreed all around. I don't think the upper yoke section is hardened: I think it's made out of "oilies," embossed, and merely thick (look at how it's moving in the fencing scene there). A wide vest won't necessarily inhibit your motion: I have a vest I just finished with a REAL wi...

Actually, I have been looking at the pictures, and Yeah, I could make that. That is kind of a cool thing to realize. It would take me all winter. The body armor appears to be in four main sections. Lord Shadow, Yes, it would work quite well, with a few small modifications. You would have to add some sort of rigid protection to the elbows, and you would have to wear a throat protector, a helmet, and rigid knees, but that armor would work quite well. The throat protector (we call them Gorgets) i...

Yeah, make a Dane Axe.

I am not sure that there is any more fun to be had with your pants on.

It's a lot better if it's considerably thicker than sword thickness. That way, you can plane the sides, so it feels like an axe and everything.

Alan's good stuff really is sculptural art. The general rule is "If you can find one a Alan Baudree's pieces that fits your period and culture, buy it."

I have only one piece of his armor in my studio. I have a set of gauntlets from the early nineties. I dearly love them.
