I don't wear anything under my gambeson, because I don't wear a gambeson under my maille hauberk. I have a decorative long sleeved, knee length tabbard that I wear under my maille and then a no sleeve, upper thigh tabbard over the maille. Looks very nice and period. I love the idea, but then again I am authorized and proficient with all weapon styles. The biggest reason that I would not attend this event is because of the lack of fighting. I am a fighter at heart and I look for events that offer all day fighting (9-5). If I were to attend this event and lose my...

16g SS Maille
Does anyone fight in a 16g 3/8" stainless steel maille shirt or hauberk? Do you think that a 16g 3/8" stainless steel butted maille hauberk would last about as long as a 14g 3/8 butted maille hauberk? I am tossing aside my 50lb 14g hauberk and I was thinking on making a 16g stainless steel one to re...

Nice thread. How did you start out? Oddly enough, the place I had my first exposure to the SCA didn't have any heavy fighters, so I learned the hard way –by going to other group practices and learning how to win by watching what they did. One thing no-one mentioned was that some kingdoms have a different standard. If you don't have to have a certain edge thickness (3/4" wide) then go with the rawhide.
