I have used (and sometimes still play with) my curved falchion, scimitar, etc, in the SCA with some limited success. 1) Thrusts do work well if using a none fencing type thrust -another words no three musketeering! Many sneaking thrusting attacks are avaliable when using this weapon. 2) Wraps really...

I have learned to hold my 12oz ballpeen hammer by the head (get yer mind out of the gutter)and sorta push the hammer onto the rivet. Remember thet you only want to tap the edges of the rivet and this actually doesn't take much force -just a lot of taps! I had a hard time learning to do this trick an...

Do you happen to know what gauge and/or Inner Diameter the rings were? If the rings are pulling away then I would suspect 16g rings or less. 14g rings usually butt together pretty well even when slapped together. Making a wooden heater.
Ok guys.
How long should I soak a 3/8" wooden blank in water before I bend it?
How long should I leave it in the rack before removing and using?
Thanks.

Gordon: It depends. You won't know until you get inspected. 99% of the time it does not pass! If the marshals cannot touch your neck through the coif, then it should pass -however it is very hard to accomplish this because of the very nature of maille. Roofing Nails as Rivets!
I know you can use roofing nails as rivets, but are they strong enough for putting together a helmet? I saw a helmet this weekend that was put together with roofing nail rivets spaced about every 1 1/2 to 2 inches and I was thinking that maybe roofing nails were not quite strong enough for that. Matt: It is a DeWalt swivel head shear. It actually cuts a 3/8" piece of metal out of the center of the metal as it cuts. I know we have discussed this a million times here on the archive, but I am planning on trying this out this afternoon and I don't want to blow up anything -especially me! I have used a buckler with a glaive in both hands (not at the same time.) Severeal years ago a few friends and I held our own little rebated steel practice. We fought at the same level as the SCA (which we were all members of) and used a 3 point honor system with marshals stepping in when needed (which was rare, but did happen when someone just ignored a blow.) It takes about 100 hours for the average person to make an average sized butted maille shirt. At $150.00 you are making about $1.50 an hour and you still have to subtract the cost of materials. To be honest, it's just not worth the time and money to make butted maille anymore. I use to get $300.00 -...

Pole arms can be effective if used correctly. Everyone uses them differently, but the best fighter use quick movements, and unusual attack angles to set up the killing (or disabling) blow. Palymar is good because he's quick. He can snap that polearm down on someone several times before they even bli...
