Are you refering to the "Ivanhoe" helmet. It's basically a rounded steel cap that was used during the 12th century. It was usually worn under the mail, but it was sometimes worn over it. Another thing to consider is where you will be fighting. Some places don't hit the arms as much as others....

I am more use to seeing wankels that resemble the reuleaux triangle left inside the circle -I have yet to see a wankle with such defined corners.
