In everything but the joust. I don't ride and although I have riden in the past, I am nowhere near good enough to win. Now what exactly do you mean by "would you last?" I would last long enough to lose the first round -thats about it. Lol.... Overall, yes I would last -but I would avoid the joust. (...

SCA Rules only require 14g on spun tops. So as long as this helmet is not a spuntop (greathelms are not) -16g is legal. However you should check with you local group as Kingdoms can require a thicker gauge helmet. I would not recommend going from a 12g helmet to a 16g helmet -you will really notice ...

I believe 16g stainless is about equal to 14g in strength -isn't it? Here are some important Questions to ask yourself: 1) Where do you live? Some areas hit alot harder the others and 16g may be a little thin for where you live. 2) How often do you get hit? If you are going to be constantly bombarde...

Hi Connor. What is a bastard wankle -is it like a regular wankle but bigger? Are the edges more square then a normal wankle? I like to fight with a Wankle from time to time, but the one I have (Bearkillers) is rather heavy. I also don't have the upper body strength to use it properly -at least for l...

Chausses
Were maille chausses attached directly to the padding or were they just held up with strapping? Also, were maille chausses shapped like the leg, or were they just weaved straight? Oooops. One more thing: Is 14g 3/8"ID rings strong enough for making chausses? How about 16g 3/8" ID rimgs? Thanks. (^_^...

The weapon is identical to a faussart: a mid-12th century french weapon. It could be used 1 handed until the extra force was needed to "slice" someone in half. Coat of Plates-SCA combat
What is a good leather thickness for a coat of plates? Is suede better then leather? I plan on wearing chainmaille under the coat so I was thinking on going with 18g steel with 6oz suede. Would this last in SCA combat? Any recommendations? (^_^) ---------------- Kenric de la Terre Squire to Duke Sir...

What is your favorite shield style -and why?
Hi everyone. I really enjoy playing around with different shield styles, but heater is by far my favorite. Now I have noticed alot of large shield down here in Meridies and I was thinking about training with a non-heater type shield. I currently use a small heater, but most meridian fighter seem to ...

It also depends on how you move and how often you get hit -I loose more rings in my 16g, 3/8" hauberk moving around then most people do getting hit. I would only recommend wearing something of this size if: 1) You have the time to fix it on a regular basis -just in case. 2) You are a small person an...

All of you do realize that it really doesn't matter whether you smack someone with rattan or a sword since thrusting was the primary way to kill a heavly armored person. Grappling would be a big downfall for SCA people because medieval combat came down to who could man handle who into position for t...

What is a good gauge for making a chest/back plate? Is 18g mild steel too thin? Is 16g mild steel too thick?
Thanks.

I dish the entire piece a little deeper then I dish a normal cop -so I can flute it. If you use a large olympic sized shot put, you can avoid wrinkling the edges all together. I also have no problem bending back the edges with the 16g steel I use, but maybe I'm just lucky. Here's a photo of the one ...

Another way to look at it is to make two seperate pieces -a beenie, and a backing. The beenie is the top piece and the backing is a straight piece that goes from eye to eye around the back of your head, and from you forehead to the bottom of your neck. Connect the two pieces and you are ready to add...
