As far as I know 1320-1340 is a good speculation. I have seen books and such depict rigid hand protection during this time frame, but I know of no actual hard proof.
Any other information would diffinately be appriciated...

I have fought at many events without markings of anykind for either side. Both sides were around maybe 50 - 70 fighters per side and sometimes you would get killed by your own side, but does it really matter? We are there to have fun and to fight -if we are lucky, we might learn something. As the da...

I agree with brother Raibeart Lok De la Haye that it will never happen. I use to try and compensate for the differences, but I became so tired of the large gap between opoonents. I now handle calibration the same for everyone. I accept what I feel is a clean and solid blow, and I try to deliver the ...

Pauldrons
I have made a few pauldrons using two pieces of leather per pauldron, but I was wondering if one wider piece would work just as well or even better.
Has anyone tried this idea and what were the results.

The biggest problem with this wide variety of combat rules is safety. Imagine what would happen if someone moved from an armored combat archery area to a light combat archery area and didn't realize the difference as he started to swing at that lightly armored archer -WHAM! An unfortunate trip to th...

4 -I think!?! I don't mind CA as long as I can hit and kill the archer. I like the baldar blunts as they make CA alittle more realistic(you can't swat the arrows out of the sky.) sarnac Thats wierd because every Tuchux I have fought swings hard and takes hard. Now I was confused by there website as it sure seems different then the tuchuxs I have fought against. Although similarly dressed, the website shows almost boffer type fighting, while my experience has shown otherwise....

Flattened maille
Hi everyone.
Is flattened chainmaille stronger or better then unflattened? Is it period? Is it easier to blacken flat rings? I was thinking of flatteneing my next hauberk, but I have not worked much with flattened rings.
Any comments, or suggestion would be appriciated.

Jean Paul de Sens: Ahhh, but flourantine is period (for vikings) and does work. Now I don't like Madu's either, but when used correctly I think they would work. How do you use them correctly? By blocking with the shield part and ending the fight quickly. Remember that the blades were ofter made of s...

Konstantin the Red: Thanks for the advise and information. I have plenty of 17g wire laying around and I think I'll try making a riveted hauberk out of that. I wonder if I should flatten the rings on this one. Hhmmmmmm... Thanks again. (^_^) [This message has been edited by hjalmr (edited 09-17-2002...

I actually do alot of maille work and I wouldn't recommend making a riveted hauberk using 14g, 1/4 rings unless you are very big and strong. 14g, 3/8 rings are heavy enough (mine wieghts #45) so you can imagine what 1/4 rings would wieght. The best is (IMHO) 16g, 3/8 riveted. I was thinking of tryin...

Maybe he uses two greatswords!?! I like them all. I actually enjoy playing around with different weapon styles -especially new ones! I believe that I like two stick the best when I'm at my best. Polearm would be next. Then again I do enjoy holding that shield like I'm the man to beat! Hmmmm. tough q...

Maybe it was a Tuchuk taking potshots at you on the ground! Nothing against the Tuchuks (I have fought with and against them), but they sometimes forget where they are and by who's rules they are fighting under. As far as I know SCA rules make it illegal to strike a helpless (laying on the ground) o...
