Egfroth: How much harder then a spagnhelm would you say this helmet is to make? It actually looks much easier to make then say a bascinet. I realize that my first, and even second attempt will probably not come out very well (the reason for my "mess it up and trash it" statement) but I have to learn...

Egfroth: Too cool!! I have a friend who has been looking for a byzantine type SCA helmet and this would work great. Do you mind if I use your pattern to make a similar helmet. I will give it the old college try on my own if I must, but the pattern would make it a little easier for me to mess it all ...

Vitus: I also don't believe that you are being pushy. Far from it. You are discussing your views about the SCA in a very diplomatic fashion and you should be praised for it. I don't recall you insulting anyone, or pointing any fingers. You are just addressing some issues that you feel may need adjus...

Same as above, but make sure the heater is in the proper position when you figure out that comfort area. I knew someone who strapped a heater comfortably only to have it be worthless since he couldn't move his arm enough to put the points where they should be. (^_^) [This message has been edited by ...

Darius Serpentius: I find that the reason that more complaints are "filed" for melee reasons is simple -a total disregard for the rules. In both your cases the rules were broken. Excessive force (anyone denting 12g steel is way out of line), striking a fallen opponant, and striking a person from beh...

In regards to the calibration differances between kingdoms, and unbelts/belts, etc: I would have to agree with Sir Vitus 110%. I think the entire rules in regards to a good blow should be rewritten from scratch. I can see why some people swing to hard (in my humble opinion) and/or only accept bonebr...

My Midrealm and Meridian shields are: 24" x 25" Heater 24" Centergrip round 28" Wankel (which I would cut down to 24" but it was a gift from my knight before I was squired.) This is a great topic because I am alittle annoyed at all the barn door shield down here in Meridies. In the Middle there were...

Marvin. I’m glad to be back, however I now have my own internet access and I can thus respond to my last post (I couldn’t get back online before today.) Yes, I am in Gray Niche. The problem is that it is some of my new local fighters who are telling me one thing or another. I asked if anyone had...

I don't believe the marshals should interfere with a fight (except for saftey issues of coarse) unless the blows are very obvious. I fought a Knight up in the Midrealm a month of so ago that was just not going to accept any blows from anyone ranked under him. I nailed him with a devastating leg shot...

Nice topic and it fits well into my situation. I just moved down from the Midrealm and a few people in my group believe that I am not accepting blows like I should. I don't consider myself a rhino, but I do weeble-wooble as I fight. I try explaining that I thought the blow was either glancing (due t...

Well I've been in the Memphis, TN area for a week now and I now have more free metal then I know what to do with. I've had more people throw sheets of good metal at me left and right -it's amazing. I'm REEEEEEAAAALLLLYYYY going to like living back here again if this is the norm. Now if only I could ...

If your opening up on the right, then you should fight as a right handed shieldman -practicing with that big shield on your right is only going to confuse you more when you put a sword back in it. My advise (if I'm understanding you corectly) is to go right handed stick and board for awhile and figh...

I am moving Well everyone I am going to moving to Memphis Tennessee in about 12 days. I was wondering who if anyone here was located there or close by. Although I had planned on moving down there at the end of the summer, recent events have bumped up the date a bit. Besides the fact that my knight i...

Heat Rash -yes it's combat related!
Hi everyone. Is there anything I can put on my face to stop severe heat rash. I am highly alergic to heat (seriously) and I just can't take coming back from hot events with a blistered face every other week -my eyes are almost swullen shut thanks to Border Raids. Thanks for any help you can give -my...

Arming cap.
What is a good material for making an arming cap? I really want something that will soak up that #$%$# sweat that pours down my face and blisters my face all up. I usually don't wear a cap, but I returned home for Border Raids with a severly blistered face due to heat rash. The sweat was too much so...

Well the gauging for this particular age group is touch only -so I'm more worried about the kid falling down and having the helmet wrap around his head like a pop can. I will probably use 18g for the middle age group, but 6-9 year olds may get sick of the heavy armor pretty fast -my 6 year old has a...
