I am thinking about giving lamellar another try -does anyone have a size small/medium for sale or trade? I would prefer aluminum.

Leather shield baskets -lets see a few pics please.
I am planning to use a leather shield basket behind my new warshield, but would like to see a couple pics of what you have done before I make my first attempt.
Also: is you leather hardened or just slapped on?

Believe it or not, I was going to sell shield boss forms like the one I now use. I hated using a stump so I made a shield boss dishing form. It has six 1/4" holes for bolting down the boss so its ready to bolt down and fight when finished. I just weld the holes in for those who with to do the h...

Re: How to remove the gray coating on cold rolled mild steel
I know, thats why I thought that, but its also the same when I order it from the steel supplier. Not only that but if you continue to heat the steel, it will flake up and fall off -which is probably what happens in the mill. So whatever way is which -the the steel industry doesn't see it that way. T...

Re: How to remove the gray coating on cold rolled mild steel
I would think that the gray was hot rolled, but every steel mill tells me the gray stuff is cold rolled and the silvery stuff is hot rolled -the heat burns off the gray stuff.
Today I play with vinegar.

Konstatine: I think he's talking about the mill scale, which of course means it's actually hot rolled. hjalmr, since vinegar is pretty weak, it takes some time, but it's almost impossible to overdo it. It's hard to give an exact time because temperature makes a difference (as does if you've been re...

Laying flat on the floor -it measures 24" across. X2, it should fit a 48" chest at most! I would say it would fit a 40" chest comfortably.

I make munition grade versions of them if interested. I don't know too many people who make them. If you happen to have a pic or link to which type you want (and there are several different versions of Kabutos), I will see if I can make it.

Finnvarthe: it weights about the same as if I made it with slotted bands and cheek plates. Ventilation is definately better and is one of the reasons I made it this way.
Tancred: No, I do not have that helmet in stock.
