Ed only hits hard, because he has managed to warp the laws of physics in his favor, and HE WONT SHARE THE SECRET RITUAL DAMMIT! Not...

I am interested in taking at shot at assembling a cuirrasse using lamellar with flutes. Any suggestions for manufacturing the lamellae? Fragments of a bronze tank, the lamellas in arrow form from copper sheet struck and uebereinanderlappend by longer in a circle bent bronze pins connected with pointed ends. On the insides of remainders of the leather fodder, held by the same pins. So they are describing plates held togeather, and on...

The majority of the pictures you have posted are punched either on the sides only, or on the top and sides only. There is no bottom lacing hole This would make it more likely that they are pieces of scale armor, not lamellar (particularly your last picture) I totally forgot I had more pictures. I be...

A tricky issue. Something that can;t be documented, should ALWAYS be represented properly as specualtion. But all speculation is not created equal, right? The Viking gambeson thing is hard. ... on the one hand, some sort of padding beneath mail seems like a no-brainer. OTOH, we have evidence that p...

Doug I think you are moving this the wrong way Absense of evidence - we cannot show this ever was done, a popular method with good living history groups. We cannot show that this was done or know or used therefore we don't permit it in our re-enactment. ex - tieing a piece of embrodered cloth onto a...

No, not a tiger-striped armor , and not in a "furry" way. A friend of mine is making a suit of samurai armor for SCA, and is interested in working in some sort of tiger motif. I have seen tiger pelt scabbards, and I thought Kato Kiyomasa may have worked one into a banner at some point. Be...

OK small plates joined by rings in Japan - primarily used on secondary armor
The attached picture shows an arm harness made with plates and mail, as part of a harness held togeather with lacings. If one is superior to the other wouldn't it have been used exclusively on an important mans armor?
