I wear them with a gamboised cuisse. I have a small leather tab sewn onto the cuisse supporting a pair of woven points that hold the knee up, and a Y shaped strap holding the knee secure. Mine are set so they are comfortable standing, not so nice to kneel in. I believe they are not buckled in the pi...

I would do it. People hate me anyway. There are times when I find it really odd the way we in the SCA have of mixing our drive for historical accuracy with our passion for a mythic culture. Personally, I've joked (semi-seriously) for years about going out to the field with a unit of musketeers (arq...

Actually the katannas that the Samurai used in armour were not sharp. The sharp edge tended to get blunted quickly on armour, and the sword was used like a hatchet to smash armour, then stab with the tip when an opening happened. At least that's what I've heard from the Fujiwaras when I lived in Ja...

There is usually a pinata in Clan Yama Kaminari on the clans party night at Pensic. One year the mix used for the paper mache was ridiculously resiliant so the pinata took hits from batons, and sca swords without breaking up. Daimyo Akira (Clan Lord) got tired of the nonsense, sent a retainer to his ...

Ya know, it's not a historical documentary, it's a film, like knights tale. Not EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME has to be period. When did the director say he was going for 100% accuracy?? silly people, get a life. Kingdom of Heaven and a Knight's Tale were vastly different from each other and were being m...

Someone had a picture posted here a while ago of HYW soldiers looting a house. One of the soldiers had a bascinet that looked for all in the world like a pointy spun top clearly riveted to a bottom semi-cylinder. Looked like a poorly done SCA helm. Re: Brass Burrs For Rivets
I work in leather, so please remember that in response. because of this, I gotta have burrs on my rivets. Where does one procure wonderful brass burrs? I got a box of rivets from RJ Leahy, but can't seem to find any brass washers that will work. I can get brass washers from the hardware store, but ...

In case you weren't familiar with Kipling The Law of the Jungle (From The Jungle Book) Now this is the Law of the Jungle -- as old and as true as the sky; And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.
