Thanks for all the replies enveryone. What's best to prevent verdigris during storage? Is a light application of oil suitable? Oil is fine but drying it well is most important. A friend of mine is very active in 18th century living history, he made a comment once that military "spit and polish" cam...

are you kidding....YES. Thats why I never understood why someone would spend their vacation, aka Pennsic, as a guard at the entrance of a camp... or squiring to a 'knight' who thinks they are Gods chosen one. .....that is taking it too far. Burnishing the edges of your straps also can make a world of difference in appearance, and can even to some degree hide wobbly cuts. I am always suprised at how rarely I see this done. I have a small hook in a rafter in my shop (low ceiling) when I cut a long strap I'll attach it at the top, wet a ...

Re: Beer?
So, does anyone know of a decent, commerically available, reproduction medieval brew? There is a solid reference in Geo. Silver to "Bottel Ale" being something special enough to merit comment, so for late period high end you can justify bottle conditioned ales. the bulk of what you'd drink would be...

C=pi d is your friend put on your arming cap, coif, and what ever you are wearing under the helm. There was a discussion last week about a Siberian lamellar harness on display at the American Museum of Natural History. For whatever it is worth in this discussion it is laced with leather.

Boy that could lead to a bad scouting report Oh, crap. We've traveled halfway across the galaxy to conquer their planet, and they've got bows and arrrows!
