On a four foot sword I'll use six inch quillon
On a five and a half foot one I use a set of Mondrakes nine inch quillon
it's a mixture of protection, and encumberance - you have to find what works for you.

I'm doing the first plastic armor I have touched in over 20 years for my son (age . I've ordered the Noble Plastics "auk" plates. They are very light, the harness is lacing togeather quickly and the price was not prohibitive. If you look at byzantine illuminations the bulk of the infantry archer har...

if Seward had spent a fraction of the time footnoting his sources (no notes to speak of) as he did trying to be snarky and PC and painting Henry V as a self-righteous puritan goon--he actually compares him to Hitler at one point--I would take him more seriously as a historian. Interesting. Thanks f...

Sidenote - I am doing my sons first harness Hate to say it but I'm using polycarbonate lamellar plates for weight and cost considerations. The museum does have some nice pieces from the arctic I'm workign from memory but the one thing I've loved is a "blind" set up on runners with a civil war rifledmusket attached to it The explination was that it made it possible to work forward without presenting a human silouette. Me personally - I ...

Basic mail math - assuming you want the mail to hang, rather than stretch as tight as possible. SCA Leg "Wounds"
I've been thinking about an experimental tournment, I'm not wild about kneeling, have though hopping on one leg in one place was ridiculous, and kind of think the presenting your sword to yield after a leg blow wouldn't work for me So What would people think of an experimental wounds retained tourna...

So no need for padded chausses? With the arms you wear a slightly padded jupon (which I have made)... What keeps the backs of the rivets from diggen into the knees and legs? Yeah, it's definitely an adjustment fighting in the Revivals but I like them alot. Mordreth, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try. Re: I can't make simple knee cops work!
Ok, guys. I've been trying to get my kit together over the last 9 months or so since my daughter was born. The part of my kit that is really giving me grief is knee cops. I want to wear a simple knee cop. These are commonly called "crusader" or "soupcan" knees, simliar to these: m I would like to w...

I did a long time ago in butted mail If you start an expansion pattern about 2-3 inches above the kneecap, and taper it back down 2-3 inches belowthe joint into the shin you'll wind up with a "pouch" of mail when you're standing which expands to allow you to fully flex the knee when you sit or kneel...
