On a four foot sword I'll use six inch quillon
On a five and a half foot one I use a set of Mondrakes nine inch quillon
it's a mixture of protection, and encumberance - you have to find what works for you.

You'd better guard on your way down, and you'd better guard while your opponent goes to a knee around here.
It is considered polite to let them settle if there is a "natural" break in the fights rhythm.

The interior doesn't actually get a lot of snow, it's just very cold and whatever falls doesn't melt untill late in the spring season

I use a dowling jig to center my drill bit when drilling out the grip - it helps give a clean accurate hole that meets up from both sides. Running the heated tang through afterwards cleans up the hole and gives a perfect fit.
