Re: low profile
You might want to glue a strip of leather in the inside over the bent over cotter pin "arms" in case a fluky shot pulls one part way out. It's one of those once in a million things, but it took us a long time to work a friends helm off when one opened. Hmmm. This has never happened to me, but even ...

Re: low profile
From the WTB vervelles thread: For all those guys from earlier periods trying to attach mail to a helm to hide a back plate in order to get the "cap over mail" look, I recommend using big cotter pins instead of vervelles. I've used them on my demi helm for many years and only replaced them once. Th...

Re: New Gorget Rules???
Well it would appear society wide that a gorget will be required even under aventails. For what I gather, a 1/2 of closecell foam will be required. I guess this is in response to the fact that some aventails are feather weight and really provide zero protection. I hate gorgets cause I have no neck....

If only it were that simple. But in my experience, beating the crap out of somebody who won't play nice makes them either a) sullen and worthless or b) gone. Usually the latter. JB sounds like this guy needs to be taken out back and rebalanced, half an ounce of lead behind the left ear should do it...

SCA in and around Wellington Fla. / Seamarch?
So my little (squire)brother moved down to Florida about 18 months ago, he's settled in, is buying a house, and starting to go stir crazy. If there are any good practices in the area could you please contact me with the information which I will pass on to him with a hearty exhortation to get off the...

How about no point? Maybe something like a copper head as they use on some jousting lances today. I really, really do not want to explain to my wife, or a paramedic how I got a spear through my inner thigh, "because it skipped off my armour, and it hit me where it didn't cover. We thought the spear...

I meant I love the catholic churchs no nonsense style, No-nonsense style? Everything about the Roman Catholic church IS style. Ceromony, ritual, heavily ornamented decor. If anything, it is nonsense in that it contributes little to one's relationship with God, but greatly to the wealth of Rome. You...

Re: Splicing Support Poles with Steel Sleeves
I took another look at the Panther catalog and photo of my soon-to-arrive tent and fly. The package as advertised consists of a ridge pole, two uprights and six support poles for the dining fly. I'm assuming that if the tent is 8 feet tall, all of the poles are 8 feet in length. Also, I am assuming...

I might be wrong but far as I know a chin strap that just goes under the chin is legal too. They are legal. It is just hard to negate the horizontal force of a thrown blow with it alone. The cupping of the chin helps keep it it place. Most helms want to pivot when the bar grill in pushed in towards...

I have a recipricating saw but am not sure how to hold the metal safely and if I need to back it with something while cutting.
