Re: low profile

You might want to glue a strip of leather in the inside over the bent over cotter pin "arms" in case a fluky shot pulls one part way out. It's one of those once in a million things, but it took us a long time to work a friends helm off when one opened. Hmmm. This has never happened to me, but even ...

Re: low profile

From the WTB vervelles thread: For all those guys from earlier periods trying to attach mail to a helm to hide a back plate in order to get the "cap over mail" look, I recommend using big cotter pins instead of vervelles. I've used them on my demi helm for many years and only replaced them once. Th...

If you want to go eastern germany/western "eastern" europe grill faced bascinets are almost common, as are scale aveltails. This would give you a fairly unique look in the SCA, and would retrofit quite easily

Re: New Gorget Rules???

Well it would appear society wide that a gorget will be required even under aventails. For what I gather, a 1/2 of closecell foam will be required. I guess this is in response to the fact that some aventails are feather weight and really provide zero protection. I hate gorgets cause I have no neck....

If you're talking ensolite to steel I use gaske cement from auto supply stores. You must do this ahead of time and air out the helm for a few days prior to wearing it.
It removes easily with acetone nail polish remover

SCA in and around Wellington Fla. / Seamarch?

So my little (squire)brother moved down to Florida about 18 months ago, he's settled in, is buying a house, and starting to go stir crazy. If there are any good practices in the area could you please contact me with the information which I will pass on to him with a hearty exhortation to get off the...

Re: Splicing Support Poles with Steel Sleeves

I took another look at the Panther catalog and photo of my soon-to-arrive tent and fly. The package as advertised consists of a ridge pole, two uprights and six support poles for the dining fly. I'm assuming that if the tent is 8 feet tall, all of the poles are 8 feet in length. Also, I am assuming...
