I was one of the early members of MSR / Kingdom of Acre that Nissan mentioned. The single combat / 5 man melee / grand melee that they use was originally envisioned as a "safety valve" to prevent a skillfull, but widely unpopular member from taking crown. As Nissan pointed out this was subverted int...

I fight in gorget, padded arming hood, and coif, so not quite the same thing as a camail but quite a few years ago I was fightinga largish duke, he went for a thrust, and had his foot slip so the shot went into my throat with all of his body behind it. I think I would have been in serious trouble wi...

I wonder how many knights are gonna array themselves in their finest historical armor for this. I also wonder if they're gonna fight with traditional 'knightly' weapons. It's not my personal thing but the pictures from that battle of the thirty where they look so goddam real its amazing just floor ...

ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh.... OK all I know is that I am not in the SCA, and in Dagorhir/Belegarth you can only use specific metal or leather for armour, so I tend to not even look for plastics. We practice in the same area as the local SCA group does though, and I have seen some, well, no offense but...

dizzy Dean broke his big toe. Being an athlete in the 1930's he continued to play, and modified his pitch so that he didn't hurt the foot more. by the end of the season he had destroyed his shoulder, was in constant pain, and never pitched again professionally. Screw the diabedes - a broken big toe ...

Quarstersaffing a weapon is using a polearm holding it at the the end with one hand and at about one quarter of its lenght (hence the name). As opposed to halfstaffin, where you hold the weapon at two points roughly eguidistant from its center. Holding a weapon quarterstaff generally makes it more ...

Guy, You are welcome. I orginally came up with this system over 27 years ago to prevent the hilt from being chewed up by steel clamshell gauntlets. It has the fortunate secondary advantage that it prevents the rattan hilt splitting (and thereby keeps the lag bolt securely fastened). -Keith/Austin. ...

Thanks George I think part of the misunderstanding between the LH and SCA people on this board is that I believe SCA members become attached to pieces of equiptment more readily than the re-enactment community does. My technical skills are way past what they were when I made my helm, but I can't rem...
