Not much now, but TSR was bought out by Wizards Of The Coast, and WOTC quit publishing all those AD&D books for a new (and superior ) set of rules. Sit on them for a few years until all the old books have been bought out of the gaming stores and t...

Maille scraps for trade
About two years ago I blew my birthday money on about 8000 aluminum 14 gauge 3/8" rings from The Ring Lord. My plan was to make one of those mantle-shirts for boffer fighting, which I never finished assembling. So, I'm offering it up for trade. Included is: *One rectangular patch, about 25"X9" *One ...

Cheap Norman-esque dress helms?
Hey all Every August the local SCA, along with a number of my friends, go out and participate in the local Scottish Highland Games. The day's events wrap up with about an hour of boffer war fighting with a theme from Scottish history. Last year the SCA were all Orkney Vikings and their club was Isle...

Don't put everything together, leave the elbow, vambrace and rerebrace seperate, perhaps pointed to an undergarment or to a sports pad. Use leather, and form it to your body after soaking it in hot water (I assume you're familiar with making hardened leather armour). Likely the vambrace could be wor...

We've nicknamed it Grendal http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I have fought in it quite a bit, it's a very good helm, and the visor design is cool, just too big. I figure somebody can use it more than I do. *edit* go ahead and email me with the pembridge pics as well! [This message has bee...

I Have a CLANG bascinet with a lifting visor you can have for $60, it extremely well made, the only catch is that it is made for someone with a 26" head or so, really really big. Believe me when I say that you simply will not get any use out of this thing if you don't have at least a 25" head, bigge...

I think you will find that the maille is just rusting because you are working with it, and not wearing it. I once sold a friend a butted iron shirt that had quite a bit of storage rust on it; he returned it a week later with an apology, saying he couldn't afford it. He had been wearing around the ho...

Proper use of the Cross of St. George
How would an English man-at-arms fighting abroad have displayed this during the 14th century? Would it be correct to display it upon a shield and surcoat?

Anyone interested in making one of these in 18 gauge galvanized?

I would need it by June, willing to pay cash or trade for my lamellar corselet. Let me know, thanks.

I've tried it. I clipped a single ring off my riveted galv. shirt, and soaked it in a shot glass full of 3% peroxide for about 3 hours. Turned the ring a nice even chalkboard black. See pictures here . So, I found peroxide bottles on sale at Walmart for $.75 per, and bought enough to fill a large pl...

Thanks for taking the time to reply Russ. I was looking at a War of the Roses book which has a map of Europe in 1377, and it depicts both modern Lithuania and Belarus as one nation, 'Lithuania'. I'm not attempting to contest your info, just explaining where my ideas have come from. I suspect it's si...

http://www.hastings1066.com This is an online version of the Bayeux Tapestry, if you imagine that the warriors depicted there are all around 5'9, you can imagine the shields to be about 20"X 48". Even within the tapestry they vary greatly in size though, and other sources depict similar variations....

Sorry to step on your toes Russ, it's definetly not my field of expertise. I went back to a few books I own showing Migration patterns from ~500-~1000, and they show a Slavic 'belt' through what looks like Czechoslovakia, Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. The borders are not illustrated, but it looks t...

Sorry for the delay Krag, the pics came through great. Please send the other 40 you have. It does seem that they are similar to the axes in previous centuries in design, with only aesthetics to diffrentiate them. I'm especially interested in anything with a topspkie or backspike. Thanks in advance. ...

Are you making a brig? I bought a 2X4 sheet of ABS and tried to experiment with making a hidden body armour for under a maille shirt, I cut it into little pieces, heated it up, ground it, drilled it, then swept it into a storage tub in the garage. I paid about $16 for it, it's yours in exchange for ...
