Hi Jengjen, I was asking, I just noticed that you had your kite strapped perfectly vertical- it's a very authentic way to strap your shield, but not that common in our game (in my experience). How do you like it, and do you have any tips or observations about that shield style?

Jengjen!

Looking thru your photos (at Vitus' recommendation), I saw you fighting a bit with a kite, which has the handle & arm strap totally vertical. I was wondering how you like it, and if you have any advice?

Gauntlets for sale/trade

Hey all, I've got a pair of gaunts for sale, 18 gauge stainless by Andy Ward, size is medium. For exact measurements, check here . I'll sell them for $70, or trade them for a pair of Andy's large size gauntlets (or any large pair of gauntlets, if they have a good thumb). Let me know, thanks. Broð...

I have no idea. When you sent me my shield via UPS, Master Jamie, I had to pay nothing more, I just picked it up. I recieved my gambeson from Gilded Lily shortly thereafter, and had to pay $20 tax, about $4 duty, and a $45 UPS brokerage fee. I asked what the hell that was, and was told it was the UP...

I'll be selling these quite soon, I've got a sheet of aluminum coming in next Wednesday. My price will be $60 CAD (about $37.50 US). Shipping will be pricey though, you will most likely be better off with a US supplier.

Aluminum shields; 6061 or 5052

Topic says it all; what do folks prefer? I'm thinking of making some for sale (since there isn't a Canadian source & shipping from the States is a bitch on something so big). Thickness either way will be .10 (12 gauge). Thanks in advance.

Yeah, list the weights. Many years ago somebody (I think David Counts) posted a pic here of a (I think) Mongol helm which was 8 gauge at the edge of the bowl, it was really interesting.

Great idea, at any rate.

I've used big shields since I started SCA fighting, but switched to a 24" centergripped round in December. This is probably medium sized for some of you, but around here the norm is either a 30" centergripped round, or a 24"X36" heater. My 24 incher looks absolutely tiny to me, but I have a much eas...

As an idea, to avoid screwing up the profile of the weapon heads, couldn't you pad between the rattan and the attachment surface, rather than padding the striking surface? I have a friend who has a straight six foot stick, with a 1 foot stick taped alongside the end. To comply with the progressive g...

Very Very cool, I love them all, especially the Scorpione. What would you all think of taking the front blade of the Italian Bill, cutting it in half, and using the halves, taped to each side of a stick, to make a slashing spear?

Again, good job.

Many moons ago, when I was undecided on what direction I wanted to take with my armour, I bought one of those sallets. Gauntlet articulating on leathers?

I was looking at the pattern in the archive for Thor's finger gauntlets, I was thinking of using the cuff, wrist, and hand pattern to make a 3-piece demi. Just a fun project for the loaner gear. If anyone has ever checked out that pattern, the three pieces articulate on three leathers rather than lo...
