Ever feel like you're showing off?

Bascot said something interesting (write down the date! http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif ) in one of his threads, that with above-standard gear, he sometimes feels like he's 'showing off'. My equipment is a long ways from where I want it to be, but it looks pretty decent. I bought a helm fr...

How interesting that he forms curved pieces over a pipe... I tried it in the past, and found it much simpler to form the steel INTO something rather than AROUND something. I made a vambrace for loaner stuff the other night, and formed it by opening a bench-mounted vice about 3 inches, laying a leath...

A friend of mine who used to fight locally had an Anglo Saxon persona, he used to wear a pair of hockey pants with a one piece fanless knee, and a large-ish pair of woolen pants over. Over this he wore a long woolen tunic. Overall it looked fairly good, you couldn't really see the shape of the armou...

The only time we ever fight counted blows is at demo/entertainment situations, we did a staff party in October where we fought to 10 blows, pausing after each good blow to announce it. It's not that I prefer it as a combat system, but folks seem to be more able to follow it, seem to get more enjoyme...

Fought spear for about an hour with these today. Try and wish as I may, these gaunts are a medium and I definetly need a large. He sells them for $80. What are the requirements for your group? In the SCA, we have a bit of an issue with some regions hitting harder to consider it a good blow, while some areas hit lighter. Do you steel guys find that some groups are comfortable with pulling shots that are softer, while other groups let the weapons st...

I agree that overall the PoH thing looks tacky, but I like to give my shield arm if I tag a fighter's shield arm, simply because I get a huge rush out of fighting with just a single rattan sword. We keep a basket hilt with an 10 inch piece of rattan in it on hand for just such fights. That's just pr...

The bidding is at $53 right now, for $53 I'd toss the bargrill for the helm, shine it up, and put a new, more low-profile grill on it, or maybe a faceplate like on Gundo's Hussar Burgeonet. Then I'd tell the guy to take the rest of that armour to the Salvation Army http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/w...

cutting through welds

I'm wanting to shorted an old helm I have by about 2 inches, but to do so I'll have to run through two welds with my jigsaw. If I go slow, with lots of cutting fluid, is the weld likely to crack? Thanks in advance.

It looks huge in the pics, about 4 feet long, if you assume the handle is big enough to grip with your hands. However if you read the description, it's only 11 inches long. Probably would have fit into a wood handle. The axe head makes me think it's some sort of woodworking tool. [This message has b...

Advice needed from the spear & shield guys

I built a short spear for single-handed use a few weeks ago, and have done a lot of pell work with it. When using it with my gauntlets I find it is very hard to switch from an overhand to an underhand grip, but very easy to choke up on the spear for closer fighting, or slide my hand towards the rear...

That's great. Of all the reproduction helms with occulars on them, that's the closest I've ever seen to the proper shape of the Gjermundbu helmet. The dishing is a subtle but nice touch

The original had a few rings hanging off the sides, but none over the face, or any indication that there was any.
