You can tell I can't sleep, I started drawing pictures http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif http://www.geocities.com/cantonwillowmere/strapped_round.html The one on the left is how lots of folks strap their rounds, and the strapping technique that produces the 'falling forward' syndrome. Also, I lke the shape of the last plate you bosted Rev, but not the height, Birka plates were 4 inches tall, and something around 3 would be better. The shape is more aesthetically pleasing tho...

Halvgrim, take a look on the Red Khaganate site, there's a discussion & pic there about a 10th c. helmet found in Ukraine which is not pictured on your website. Also, when I find an image of that Great Polish helm I mentioned to you, I'll let you know.

Birka reconstruction model- incredible!

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/vikings/village.html

Follow the link to a few clips from some PBS Viking documentry, the page features quicktime clips of the camera wandering through the streets of an amazing 1:30 scale reconstruction of Birka. Beautiful, excellent work.

I think buying your own metal would be best, I need a small number (about 200) lamellar plates in brass, and there seems to be absolutely no interest in brass.

I vote for the Wisby plate as well, it would allow the alternating rows Adam mentioned. As well as looking cool as hell, the alternating rows stiffens the armour up quite a bit, I did alternating on the chest plate of my armour, and it's much stiffer than the body.

So the anodization doesn't hold up well to metal-on-metal contact? I was wanting to use it for lamellar plates, so much for that Image

Would powder-coating 250-300 lamellar plates be financially realistic?

I've heard folks describe a process by which aluminum can be turned a gold color. I know it involves a complicated process, but would anyone who is in the know be willing to do it for me, or recommend a business I could get in contact with? Thanks.
