You can tell I can't sleep, I started drawing pictures http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif http://www.geocities.com/cantonwillowmere/strapped_round.html The one on the left is how lots of folks strap their rounds, and the strapping technique that produces the 'falling forward' syndrome. The o...

These guys are in Ontario, rude on the phone & took over a month to process my order from items in stock, but they have a great selection, and I like to spend my $ in Canada when possible. Take a look.

I like, umm, all of them http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif The wider wisby is definetly better. Also, I lke the shape of the last plate you bosted Rev, but not the height, Birka plates were 4 inches tall, and something around 3 would be better. The shape is more aesthetically pleasing tho...

Follow the link to a few clips from some PBS Viking documentry, the page features quicktime clips of the camera wandering through the streets of an amazing 1:30 scale reconstruction of Birka. Beautiful, excellent work.

Hey, a little off-topic... are there any pics online of the Bicolline war this year? www.bicolline.com still has the same pics from last year. If any of you know of Bicolline photo galleries online, please share. Two months later, still wishing I'd attended http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/frown.gif...

Apprentice Works Armoury- Review
http://www.geocities.com/merripan/Apprenticeworks.html A friend of mine popped into town for the day, we armoured up & fought for about an hour. It was his first time fighting since his new armour arrived Thursday, a breastplate, gorget, & pauldrons from Apprentice Works. I thoroughly inspected eve...

These are modern reproductions of the original chess pieces. Sorry, couldn't find originals online. This picture very clearly shows the back of the helmet I was referring to. If I were building this helm (which I might), I would make the top, add a 16 gauge skirt, add a longish leather drape over th...

Anywhere in Europe during the 10th Century, you're pretty much looking at maille. Don't roll your eyes though, it can be done... I'm starting work on a kit utilizing a maille shirt with hidden defenses, and Seamus just posted pics of his maille shirt & kidney belt on the Great Western War thread. Yo...

I made what ended up looking like a cutlass sort of the same way as has been suggested. Filled a pot with water, set to boil. Laid my rattan across the top of the pot, then rested the lid on top of the rattan. Let it soak up the steam for 20 minutes, then bend it against the counter & hold the curve...

Coloring aluminum
I've heard folks describe a process by which aluminum can be turned a gold color. I know it involves a complicated process, but would anyone who is in the know be willing to do it for me, or recommend a business I could get in contact with? Thanks.

Echoing what Anhur said, I always thought it was called the 'Dark Ages' because England was not yet introduced to the calming effects of Feudalism & was still operating on a politically unstable warrior king/tribal sort of system. Thus putting the end of the dark ages 1066. Are you relating those da...

I've seen several folks post here & on Arador looking for the company 'Birka Plates'. FYI, one of the members here (I think he's posting as Yoshido now) went to a metal stamping company & got a rough price estimate for getting plates punched. He posted the price, and a discussion ensued about what s...
