In the mists of my memory, I can recall reading about Iron Age warriors taking and wrapping a long strip of cloth around the waist, tops of the legs, buttocks and groin. Sort of forming a snug diaper that would cinch the genitals right up close to the body. Was this Romans? Greeks?

These guys sell 99% junk from India, but if you follow the 'weapons' link, then the 'knives & spears' link, they have blunted spearheads imported from England for only $30.

In the past I've bought a helm, a pair of knees, and a shield basket from Mark. Every transaction went smoothly, and all the items were well-made. Good choice.

A favorite of mine is to take a rubber ball, put it in my sword hand. Stand in position with a phantom heater and a phantom sword. Go through all the body mechanics as though you are throwing a shot, then at the point you would release the shot, let go of the ball. It'll fly forward, hit the wall, t...

I'm pretty sure these aren't period, but they interest me, if nothing else for the novelty. I think I'm going to make a pair for a friend. Anyone ever make something like this? Advice, warnings, etc?

I have a line on one of those cheap-ass $30 Viking swords from Pakistan locally, but I kinda want to customize it a little. I'm planning on removing the pommel, and replacing the wood & plastic hilt with a piece of antler. I'm going to strip the faux-leather off the scabbard and cover it in heavy li...

If you are referring to Darksword out of Montreal, I know two Archivers who own one of the blades. Glen Kyle bought one and was disgusted with it, but he was in a steel-fighting & joust performance troupe at the time, so hsi expectations of a sword must have been fairly high. Warren, who runs Hoseki...

Well, we've had armourer reviews and customer reviews, so I thought I'd post a club review. Spent the weekend attending my first-ever event with a non-SCA medieval club, The Knighthaven Fellowship (www.knighthaven.org). Taltosh (AKA Chris), who posts here quite often, invited me to check out the gro...

I made a boffer axe following the guidelines in your awesome PDF essay. It turned out really, really nice, but I did about an hour of fighting today, and noticed that the foam is tearing right at the junction of the haft and the blade. I used the axe to hook swords a bit, and I think that may be wha...

One last post before I go to bed. My GF and I are organizing a small day-event for our household in September. An Tir, Principality of Avacal. I profess that the problem could have been the lacing, it was not at maximum tightness (as the laces in my current armour is), and I didn't lace the bottom holes on the bottom row of plates, to allow a little more bend at the waist. This came through today on the Norsefolk e-list, it is a great page showing a suit of armour someone made from horn for what looks like Viking/Saxon re-enactment.
