The common date I've heard for the very last Viking raid ever was on England in 1153. These guys would have been fully Christian, practicing Feudalism, etc. Sure, it was a bunc of Scandinavians ina boat, but using the term 'Viking Raid' is a stretch. Hit-and-run nautical warfare would have continued...

I was considering going, but it's a really far ways away, and with University starting in the fall, I'm kinda counting my pennies. I don't know if I really want to go to Pennsic, it sounds kinda insane. I'd like to save up for Estrella one year though.

That Zeughaus armoury has done the only replica of one of those Germanic lamellar helms that I have ever seen. Tons of other good-looking stuff too.

I used a simple cotton cord, sort of similar to the stuff they use to lace combat boots. It was $.60 a yard, and I used about 35 yards to lace my lamellar together. I fight about twice a month, and it has all held together well for just over a year except for a blowout under one arm. This blowout is...

I think that a regular under-the-jaw style strap would have been appropriate, but with SCA helms having solid fronts and our game using big cushy face thrusts, you really want something that will split or cup over your chin, to keep the helm away from your face. There are some historical compromises...

I have a pair of used knees that have 16 gauge l...
