King_Elessar What kind of armor are you trying to make? That may help. The period answer works well, flax or hemp linen in a canvas weight. Use at least 2 layers. As others have said please don't call SCA chivalry true chivalry as it was in the middle ages. Fiorie bases his sword fighting from the basics of hand-to-hand combat. Grappling was part of Knightly combat and was not “unchivalricâ€

I suggest not padding the arms but instead use 3 or 4 layers of cloth. Padding the arms will make them a bit bulky and hard to move in.
