Personally I am all for it, but I am a period snob http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif . I see nothing 5$ and 2 hours can't solve. I think this will really improve the look of the SCA. Exposed coolers and hockey gear really do ruin the atmosphere of an event. For fencing helms all you got to d...

Personally I find batting even in 100% cotton hotter than stuffing with raw cotton. Cotton canvas or duck is way WAY hotter than linen. Also cotton soils much easier than linen and retains smells much easier. Use linen or hemp canvas, both are loser weaves, more breathable, and stronger than cotton ...

Hal My new turn shoes I am making are 12oz veggie tanned sole bend on the bottom and 4 or 5oz veggie tanned uppers. The leather factory has great premade belts that are undyed veggie tanned. Not sure of the weight but they are thick but not to stiff. I stick with veggie-tanned leather and oil based ...

This is a repeat from a brig post: "Cotton duck is tighter woven but linen is a stronger and cleaner material. Cotton stains and holds odor far easier than linen also. I have not had a single linen garment or a linen lining rip on me yet. A good amount of my cotton stuff I use to wear got ripped, ev...

The Black Prince pourpoint is stuffed with raw cotton and wool and is a garment to go over armor. A Jack is a 15th century garment made of many layers of linen and sometimes worn over maille and sometimes has a leather hide on the outside. Some are 10 layers (over maille) and some are 25 (with the l...

Chef said he only used 1 layer of linen or hemp and one layer of velvet on his brig. I have an SCA CoP I am putting together and I used 2 layers of linen and one of cotton velveteen but I have 16g metal plates and the velveteen is thin. I want to make sure the cloth does not stretch out of shape. Fl...

I am not sure buff coats are period to the 16th century. They did have padded leather doublets in the 16th century.

I did full speed, unrehearsed rebated steel fighting at MTT for the history channel with Winterfell and the only injury either of us got was a small scratch on my hand I didn't even notice for 45 minutes. All I had as far as armor was my doublet, hosen and a helm, no gaunts no gloves. The film crew ...

Fighting in wool and linen
Just wanted to share with you guys that last weekend I was at a fighters practice and I wore a linen shirt, linen braies, a linen coif, wool chausses, and a wool tunic under my gear and while I was sweating heavily like everyone else I was not miserable like those wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I cool...

Grey's company does not require hand stitching on areas you wont see such as the inside seem of a pair of hosen of in a doublet. We do require hand stitching on visible seems but no one thread counts. My first set has about 2 stitches an inch but on my new shirts I do have about 6 to 8 stitches in i...
