I cant make a ruling Ulrich but I will say I can tell plastic from 200 yards without glasses except for flat black egg armor that is shaped well, it looks like leather from 10 feet. The plates like yours are shinny and vary obvious IMO.

Personally I am all for it, but I am a period snob http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif . I see nothing 5$ and 2 hours can't solve. I think this will really improve the look of the SCA. Exposed coolers and hockey gear really do ruin the atmosphere of an event. For fencing helms all you got to d...

Fustian if I recall correctly is weft linen warp cotton, though I may have that backwards.

I also understand that modern fustian is cotton and linen blended together in both directions and is not the same as the historic kind.

Personally I find batting even in 100% cotton hotter than stuffing with raw cotton. Cotton canvas or duck is way WAY hotter than linen. Also cotton soils much easier than linen and retains smells much easier. Use linen or hemp canvas, both are loser weaves, more breathable, and stronger than cotton ...

Hemp and flax are both linen, but I was speaking of flax. Hemp is real strong and comes in heavier weights than flax, well at least for what they have on those sites.

I based my arming doublet off of my doublet pattern.

My doublet pattern is based off of the lines I see in multiple paintings from late 1450s to early 1470s. I will try and get some of the paintings up on a page soon.

I am not sure buff coats are period to the 16th century. They did have padded leather doublets in the 16th century.

Ask Kass at www.reconstructinghistory.com she does 17th century living history.
