Shane Smith and Cheval both bring up what I see as the problems. The rules are set up to leave no real consequence for fighting to close as in no grappling what so ever. There are many rules that are not realistic, which caused the style of fighting most commonly seen in the SCA to happen. 1) No gra...

Edric The pattern in The Medieval Taylor's Assistant worked for me. The body shape works perfect for what I wanted, I just had to mess with the neck lines a bit to look closer to historical. I don't like her puffy sleeve so I am altering it and messing with the shape to get it to look nicer. Here is...

Jean Paul I guess I came across too negative. I see lots of effort to improve the rules for side sword and I am glad to see it. There are many people getting into it here too, the rapier community is huge. I think the current rapier fighting rules are not open for historical combat. I have hopes for...

Well push cuts are not allowed in Atlantia, I was mistaken in thinking that was a society wide ban. The historic value of rapier combat does not rest on this one item. Don't get me wrong I think things are improving but I keep seeing fencers trying to hold back more historic rules for the side sword...

This is exactly why I am refusing to use a basket hilt, I am not a 17th century Scotsman. I hate the modernized parts of the game and the stupid arguments that come from them. We should all use gauntlets and cross guards because that was how it was done and we can do it today too. Maybe a solution w...

Here is my coments on A/B gear. It is real sturdy and will hold up to a beating, but it is poorly fitted as in way over sized, it is heavy, and it's ugly. Plus side is it is cheap.

Wes I have done historic rapier outside of the SCA. I don't find SCA rapier combat that historical yet. Wes I like the 16th century and I thought I would throw a few tips at you. Pirates in the 16th century still wear the same cloths as anyone else. CS-Erasmus The 2 areas I am most concerned with are the head and body. I know we don't wear plastic helms but foam liners cause the same problem. Best thing to do is get a linen coif for your head.
