I would say a majority of SCA heavy combat is wrong? Snap shots and 90% of wrap shots we use wouldn't do a damn thing to armor with a real sword. We have no grappling. We can't touch the sword blades as if they were light sabers that could go though metal and leather like a hot knife though butter. ...

Here are some more ideas to make it perfect. 1) All shields should be required to be of a normal period size. No barn doors. 2) The age of chivalry was 1100 A.D. to 1500 A.D. in Europe. Vikings, Romans, Samurai, and Genericelts off the field. 3) Tournaments should have no missile weapons or soldiers...

Again with the crossbows and bows? I have seen a local SCA archer penetrate 14 gauge butted maille and 16 gauge riveted maille with a simple 50 pound bow using a bodkin point from about 30 or so yards. 1) If I was going to use maille for SCA combat like a 12th century Norman would wear what gauge wire is required? Would 16 gauge butted be SCA legal? 2) If I were making German 14th century leather legs with metal splints, where the splints are only 1 inch wide, for historical accuracy, what is the ...

I do not believe leather is at all period for surcoats. Suede was not used in that era at all, there was a debate on suede in this post here http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001552.html Your best bet is to use canvas. 100% cotton canvas is sold at any fabric store and is highly durable. ...
