Re: 15th C. Thugz! Show us your kit!

Good info guys! Are jacks displayed with any frequency in german art? They are not shown with any frequency in art at all; I might have 20 or so images of jacks in total. I have found what I think are a few more in manuscripts but they are not shown in art frequently. Here are most of the images I ...

Re: Combat of the 30 - Declaration of Sides

Armor is not simulated or "assumed". You are either actually wearing maille and plate or you are not. When did that become a rule? As we originally wrote these rules, armor *was* assumed, else it would have changed the nature of the engagement. Over that years the kits have kept improving...

Re: Elbows with rerebraces/vambraces?

I think it all depends on what type of armor you are looking at. Clearly floating elbows are used even in the 15th century so why not the 14th? Plenty of effigies and artwork has the look of floating elbows especially before 1370 however some clearly have lames and would not float starting as early ...

That looks like a tool vs a combat weapon.

However there is at least on period painting that shows a double headed axe; it is Byzantine if I recall correctly.

My wife made a lemon water solution we sprayed on a tent day one at Pennsic one year, it killed 90% of the mildew on the tent we borrowed. She found info on it online if recall correctly.

Here are some sites on natural mildew removal:

Re: Upcoming exhibits to the Morgan Library, NYC

We saw plenty of problems with the interpretation on the mannequins, what was up with lacing the hose up on the back of the leg, no artwork or historical find supports such a thing. Maybe it was something they had to do in order to get them on the mannequin? We wondered the same but why not just se...

My wife and I went with a couple of other La Belle company folks, all the costumes had issues but the gold dress had the least issues of the bunch. The V opening in that kind of dress gives more than enough room for it to slip on over your lace up under dress. It shouldn't have much or any room for ...

Very true James, but the analogy still falls apart because those soldiers were most likely not wearing cap-a-pie gothic harnesses. While we might get an approximation from such a test, the test subjects truly ought to be outfitted in appropriate armaments for foot soldiers from a specific time and ...

One obviously thing that wasn't accounted for was that men with nice cap a pie suits like that would not have been on foot, but rather sitting ahorse. How tiring is it by comparison to be sitting on a horse hacking at other people; that might be a more fruitful study. The English preferred foot com...

As to the subject of harness weight I think the biggest issue you will find is a modern harness is always going to run a little on the heavy side because most modern men are going to run a bit on the heavy side. I would love to see someone squeeze into a period harness that is only 55 pound of plat...
