Re: 15th C. Thugz! Show us your kit!

The think thing that looks off about the faulds is common in repo armor; they should not keep flaring out like that they should flair at the waist and then go almost straight up and down to the bottom just like a doublet or pourpoint is shapes. Your faulds flair too wide.

Re: wool for hosen

There are many references to linen hose through out time but we need to look at the frequency of use. That armor is a poorly made version of what armor looked like in the time frame you are looking at.

I would suggest looking here for quality modern armor interpretations of that era:

http://www.wassonartistry.com/armor.php?w=15thcent

Search period art for armor shapes:

I think that is unlikely to happen. That would be a different game. I see a splinter group forming possibly and a seperation of the two but not the elimination of rattan fighting. Too many of us enjoy it to allow that to happen. Hard to say, 8 years ago I would not think getting a fresh batch of 20...

I have never seen evidence of a facing for viking tunics though some are described as having a small silk edging like what many people call a bias tape but in this case not cut on the bias. Here is what Þóra Sharptooth (Carolyn Priest-Dorman) has to say: Evidence for Viking garments frequently inclu...

Aaron, I really mean will there be an SCA of significance in 13 years. Will it all be fencers? Look how many dudes are still fighting today and the average age of fighters. New guys are in their 30's not teens. DA If anything what I see changing is rattan going away and steel replacing it; the cut ...

I would much rather spend my time on actual martial arts. That's just a mater of perception. There is no reason SCA hard suit can't be a martial art. Its all in your approach. To me, SCA hard suit is a martial art. Candidly, I've just been a crappy martial artist. There is no reason I can't bring t...

Competing at the top level in SCA heavy=treating it like a martial art. Nobody I know thinks they can go to one class a week and get their black belt or become a (good) pro boxer, but for some reason, I run into people in the SCA all the time who think that's enough for heavy combat. I think here i...

True enough, James. In general though, I don't think there's any question about whether arming garments had padding and quilting at least in some cases... right? In the later part of the 15th century it is hard to say; no padding is mentioned in how a man shall be armed: He shall have no shirt upon...

Gorm Food for thought on your argument.
