I had good luck with the stuff on brass, mild, aluminum, and stainless. For mild and stainless it took hours to get any results though. Brass and aluminum were almost instant though. They work great for fine tuning things. So once you have the pieces dished/shaped, you can put them together with the clecos. I am not a specialist. But the vast majority of my orders are for gauntlets. I have toyed with the idea of switching entirely to a gauntlet only catalog. Would make my life easier that is for sure.

I use a drill to drill holes where I want the bowl. I make the holes deeper at the center and very, very shallow at the edge. Then I use a chisel and hammer to knock out the remaining wood. I made mine by mixing roofing pitch (from a roofing company that does rubber roof installations) with plaster of paris powder and sawdust. The plaster and sawdust keep it from shattering. throwing bleach on it or soaking it in bleach does some seriously quick aging to it.
Be sure to test this on a piece of scrap to see if it gives the results you are looking for.
