Nope. Mozilla. I use version 1.4. I may try to upgrade to the new version and see if that helps.

Wired rolls?

Just wondering if wire was used in rolls. If it was used, is there any pattern to when, where, or anything like that?

Thanks,

I've seen both. The turns that change size considerably throughout their length, in my limited experience when they were rusted up enough to see inside, don't tend to be wired. Any ryhme or reason to when wire was used based on geography, time, quality, or anything? Hm, maybe I should start a new t...

Whenever I click the link using Mozilla, I get a download window with the site as a binary. But it works fine with IE. I can get the stock page to load just fine in Mozilla with cut and paste though. So it seems to just be the index page. The armor itself looks nice and clean. Good work. Chris

If you are using that pattern, you may want to go with what is marked on them. Bend the metal out to 90 degrees on the line marked for the roll on the pattern. Adjusting the amounts differently will probably make lining pieces up harder. Wire in the rolls is often easier but I am not sure it is the ...

Any suggestions on when to have a hammer-in?

I have had mine for several years and they have seen some serious abuse and held up surprisingly well. When I used nuts and bolts in similar fashion, I rarely got more than a couple of uses out of them before the threads were destroyed.

Spaulders are a good first project as well. But if you are looking at finger gauntlets try ThorZ's pattern in the pattern section. They are a great pattern for first time gauntlets.

Depending on what alloy of stainless you are using it is annealed by quenching rather than a slow cool. Kind of like brass, that is what I heard anyway.

I mostly work in stainless. Stainless is more difficult to move and shape than mild. It resists making compound shapes without serious persuasion. When I get the chance to work on mild I have to hold back significantly on my strikes. I have ruined many pieces when I forget that. Especially rolls. Mi...

Hm, they aren't marked in sizes. So I took out a tape meaure. The largest ones are about 10 1/4 inches long give or take.
Are sizes equal to inches? My foot measures 10 1/2 inches and I wear 10 1/2 shoes typically.

I use Harley Davidson leather gauntlets. They have a nice long cuff (actually too long usually so I have to trim them down). They seem to hold up very well to use and are well built and fit nicely. I just wish they had a more period look. There are some MIG welding gloves that are very nice as well....

Yes, it flattens out the roping somewhat but not as much as you would expect. I think part of the reason is that the channel I am hammering the band into is deeper than the depth I drive the metal. And being a wood form it has a little give to it.
