Wired rolls?
Just wondering if wire was used in rolls. If it was used, is there any pattern to when, where, or anything like that?
Thanks,
Chris

I've seen both. The turns that change size considerably throughout their length, in my limited experience when they were rusted up enough to see inside, don't tend to be wired. Any ryhme or reason to when wire was used based on geography, time, quality, or anything? Hm, maybe I should start a new t...

If you are using that pattern, you may want to go with what is marked on them. Bend the metal out to 90 degrees on the line marked for the roll on the pattern. Adjusting the amounts differently will probably make lining pieces up harder. Wire in the rolls is often easier but I am not sure it is the ...

I really like my clecos. They are extremely handy and fast. I like the fact that I can assemble a project completely before any riveting and see exactly how it will articulate. I also like that they are strong enough that I can make minor adjustments over a stake while still assembled. You just need...

Good start. I agree with the others though. The knuckles should extend further down the sides to prevent twisting. Here is how I make mine: m Sorry about the large pics. I would also square off the bottom of the finger plates. They look like they come to a point. In the chance of a freak accident th...

This is one of the reasons (tools being the other) why I sell the armor I make. My wife lets me spend my armor money on anything I want Granted a lot of that money goes for materials and shop overhead but that still leaves some for buying tools and research materials. I paid $600 for the Laking book...

I mostly work in stainless. Stainless is more difficult to move and shape than mild. It resists making compound shapes without serious persuasion. When I get the chance to work on mild I have to hold back significantly on my strikes. I have ruined many pieces when I forget that. Especially rolls. Mi...

forge
I picked up a forge at an auction. But it is in very bad shape. I was wondering if it can be salvaged. m m Can I just throw some of that Kao blanket or whatever it is called in it, then throw coal over that? The blower on it has one broken fin but other than that seems to work well. In case you are ...

I use Harley Davidson leather gauntlets. They have a nice long cuff (actually too long usually so I have to trim them down). They seem to hold up very well to use and are well built and fit nicely. I just wish they had a more period look. There are some MIG welding gloves that are very nice as well....

I do the same thing Ambrogio. That is another reason I like using a punch. Those little disks come in handy for other things sometimes. But I think the original poster used a drill so there are no punch tokens around. Before I got my welder I would just start over and make a new piece. I still usual...
