Either countersinking or hiding the rivet someplace (like under the arms of the visor near the pivot point) work well. I used to peen the rivet slightly to hold it in the spring. Then I learned a trick from Darivs. Take two strips of banding and only punch a hole in the one. The rivet goes through t...

The 7.5 is my personal favorite as well. It will punch through anything I normally deal with and I don't need a cheater bar to do it.
I have three whitneys each with a different sized punch in it. I hate switching out sets.

Spaulders with fancy brass trim and mail dags! Done right it could look pretty impressive I would think. Oh, just thought of this. Get some crayola markers and have someone draw the various ideas right on you. That will give an idea of how it will look. Sasuke ------------------ www.oaksarmoury.com ...

I like to use sheets of acetate (similar to overhead projector sheets) and used X-ray film. I get the acetate from a Printing company and the film from the quality control guy at a foundry. I prefer the acetate though since it is easy to see notes written on it. Sasuke ------------------ www.oaksarm...

Looks great! To get a bit more forward bend try dishing the wrist lame more and adding a slight dish to the fore and aft lames as well. Hard to tell from the picture if you did that or not. You may also want to sharpen the flutes over a stake after forming them. Not trying to criticize, just offerin...

Anyone in Chicago looking for a welder and such?

Look at the Bottom under Back Room: http://www.grafeauction.com/auctions/listing.cfm?AuctionID=929&State=IL You may get lucky and get out with the tools cheaply. I like to recommend spaulders as a great first project. Sinric has an excellent pattern in the patterns archive. You can definitely work stainless cold. Just a warning. Hard to say just based off of pictures. I would guess the mid to low end of the spectrum though. While the fingers are done in a nice historical look, they are not what I would want to fight SCA in, even with the small bucklers included. That is just my opinion though.
