I used spray adhesive and overlapped the edges at least 1/2 inch (I think). I had a bear of a time getting the fabric to stretch and compress to fit the breastplates without wrinkles. I agree with Pheylin. I don't think they are articulated on leathers. I saw some inside shots of one a while ago and if I remember correctly they looked and functioned very similar to the way sabatons do. When the arm is bent the plates compress over the center plate. No sliding rivets or leathers. ...

Cut before usually, but try both ways if you can. One thing to keep in mind is that sharp corners on cutouts tend to crack much more quickly than soft rounded curves. So try drilling/punching the tip of the wedge rather than cut a straight angle. You can always file the corner after shaping. Does th...

Keeping the blades adjusted properly can be a pain on the HF shear. You need to retighten the nuts and bolts constantly on the HF shear. It is smaller both in size and cutting capacity. Go as light as you can. I wouldn't go heavier than 18 ga. But light gauges can be tricky to work with, especially with the large plates you will be dealing with for a horse.
