I once had the corner of my aluminum heater come into my grill and miss my eye by a smidge due to a freak, and repeatable, occurrence. Shall we now ban aluminum heaters because I was almost blinded by them once 10 years ago? Careful, some folk would suggest adding perf plate to your helm. Nope, we ...

Re: welder question for the hive mind

How many amps does the welder pull? My suggestion, get 20' of #6/3 SJO cord. This is good for 60 amps. 30 amp you should be able to get by with #10/3. Yeah, I'm not an electrician (the stuff scares me like fire never could) but the heavier the safer. So if you can run an outlet to the outside, I'd ...

Re: welder question for the hive mind

Schreiber, the only existing 220 outlet in the house is about 65 feet from the shop. It is still an interesting idea though. I can have another 220 outlet ran to under the back window of the house without running afoul of local building code for fairly cheap. That would put it within 12 feet of the...

proper viking shields were thin planks of lighter wood, and would splinter and break much too easily in SCA combat (or would be so heavy as to be unusable). Plywood is a longer lasting, stronger substitution, and is also a fairly period technique Sheilds were normally made of 'limewood' aka linden....

Ilsebet's hubby doesn't fight static (I know first hand, and had the bruises to prove it  )

Laurenz's fight style is similar to mine, and I have had good luck with VLC's viking shoe with the Vibram soles, both indoors and out.
