Conal, brazing can be done easily enough. I have braized with a mapp/oxy set-up, though an oxy/acetelyne rig with a brazing tip would be better. Just make sure you get the proper brazing rod for the alloy you are using, and preheat so the fill rod flows properly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazing...

I would rather have maple or oak. Ash (besides the emerald ash borer :x :x :x ) has a pretty straight grain and as it becomes drier, it seems like it would be more prone to split.

I made one of those gloves after seeing Corby's post. They are awesome. Hardest part was finding a leather glove big enough to accommodate the heavy leather and padding. Wasn't tough. More people should do it. Thank you Sir Corby. Hey Logan, bring it to Border War in Ionia. I would like a peek at it.

The worst that could happen is you'd run into somebody with the same heraldry. Even if you do, you can just take their stuff, it's obviously yours! One note.. you need to watch the ocular openings... unless Zweihammer has made a change, they tend to be just a bit too big to pass SCA with out a small piece of 'bling' to tighten up the ocular... a one inch gauge will go right in and rattle.
