Re: WTB: Wood Working Adze

They're fairly common at flea markets and antique malls around here. Prices way less than $150. If you look a little, you can find them for around $20 without a handle. A good (and properly shaped ) handle is the most expensive part! A properly shaped handle makes using the adze more efficie...

I'd go Stonekeep or Cet (their names here)

They are (respectively) Stonekeep Armoury and Rough From the Hammer.

I have multiple purchaces from both, and suggest both without reservation.

Does Gregoire get sweet Willie, too? PM sent Hmm ... with Willie's unnatural luck with the dice (ask Murdock he tells the story best), I'm afraid I can't let him go. But, a short term loan of his services could be included as part of such a purchase! That's the Willie I know!

Re: Lamellar-vikings-normans real or invented for sca?

But it begs the question. Is proof a case of denying existence for lack of evidence? Or is proof a case of the absence of discernment. Not having proof of evidence isnt the same as proving it out of existence which is where I fear we tend to migrate sometimes. It seems to me that we are railing aga...

Drop me a pm. Dux Brannos *might* have some blanks left. I'll try to get ahold of him and prepare him for your info. My first armor was a breastplate made of blue barrel. I got more bruises from the armor than getting hit.... As for knees and elbows, I'll list 3 people from whom you can get inexpens...

Re: plastic barrel knees/elbows for SCA use

I have a friend who did a complete list legal suit of Maximillian out of black plastic barrel with little more than a dishing stump and a hammer. No heat, no vacuum form, just dishing. Pics? Have not seen Len in prolly ten years, don't know if he is still fighting. It was a Maximillian. Bad assed. ...

Re: Lamellar-vikings-normans real or invented for sca?

Except that we have plenty of texts telling us that they had mail armour. The only possible documentary evidence of lamellar is the ambiguous "spangabyrnja". There aren't any texts describing the appearance of this armour. I'll dig into it more tomorrow, but Dan's statement is the reason I believe ...

As to hard evidence of lamellar being used in the Viking, it's there. Along with the plates of lamellar found in Birka, Sweden, there was also a carved horn depicting a warrior in lamellar. In my opinion, when given the choice of a maille coat and lamellar corset, I'll choose the lamellar. The reas...
