Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Rana, I did accept a refund on the gorget, because it simply can't be used. The rest of it, I was able to modify with the help of a local armorer so that it'll at least work for me until I can slowly build up the funds to buy/build a new set. My husband has finally given in and decided to start play...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Oh, and Seonac, no, I'm not. I lived in NY for 1 year while my husband was deployed. HE is the Yankee, I'm from a tiny-ass farming town in Kansas.

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
For the record, I am brand new to heavy fighting. This was my first armor buy, and I went with James River because the multiple people I talked to seem to think he could walk on water and the price was what I could afford. It was not until after I posted this review that I had an inbox flooded with ...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Since I have no clue what other "issues" I've had that 2 people from here would email you, I can't really comment on that. I've only bought armor from you, which is reviewed here, a breastplate from a fellow fighter which I later traded for something better suited for me, and some lamellar plates th...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
This one shows the size of the arms/shoulders. The rebrace underneath the shoulders goes all the way up to my armpit. That darkish semi-circle on the outside of the shoulder is actually the back of the gorget sticking straight out. I took this picture just as I was trying the armor on, so I understa...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Firstly, I'm not 5'1, I'm definitely a 5'5 female and double checked all my emails in which I gave him my measurements. All the measurements I gave him in the email were correct, but he stated my height incorrectly as well as my knee circumference (which is 15 inches, not 16). The problem is that al...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Patternweld,
I will admit, the articulation is nice. My stuff articulates really well. It's everything beyond that which is kind of...meh. So, maybe if you could just get the elbows and legs and attach your own leather/splints or whatever and save some money.

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Seonac, If poor fit is to be expected of a non-local armorer, then my lesson is learned. If getting poorly fitted armor from someone who has your measurements isn't a big deal to you, fine, but other people might not appreciate it or know that's what to expect. Therefore, I said EXACTLY what was wro...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Thank you kindly for the offer, Lordnugg! If I was still in NY, I'd take you up on that offer and send everything back to Eric, but shipping all the way down to west Texas would be a bit much. With the help of a local guy, I was able to at least get the armor to where I can use it, and now it'll jus...

An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory
Back in the beginning of October, I was looking for a starter set. After waiting a month to get quotes, compare prices, compare quality, and talk to people about reputable armorers in my price range, I decided to go with Eric from James River Armory. I ordered a gorget, shoulders, splinted arms, and...

Could you send me the measurements on the breastplate? If it'll fit me, I''m interested in buying it.

Re: Putting Together a Starter Set
Awesome, thank you all so much for your help! You've definitely narrowed down the overwhelming task of figuring out gear. I'll be going to an even this weekend, trying some stuff on to really see what I like and will start placing orders on Monday! Y'all are the best, thank you again and I look forw...

Re: Putting Together a Starter Set
Yojimbo, I really like that look you posted. I could get away with some less than appealing armor, too, since it's covered up.

Re: WTS Mild Steel Bascinet, size small - $150
I'm going to an event this Sunday, and if this is still available when I get back, I will talk to you about buying it! I've got a tiny head, but with enough padding, I could probably make this work.

Re: Putting Together a Starter Set
Thank you Patternweld! I do have a gorget already and had never heard of a C belt, so thank you kindly for the information. Adrian, I'm not terribly picky in what I'm looking for. I do know I like the arm and knee armor that is metal on the joint with leather covered splinted bands (not sure if that...

Putting Together a Starter Set
I'm new to heavy fighting and I'm trying to get a starter set put together. I'm a 5'5 female playing a 14th century Irish persona. I'm looking for a good starter helm, arms and legs, and some demi-gauntlets, possibly torso protection, too (considering making my own CoP). My budget is about $600-$700...
