OT Research on Meiji Japan

Hi all , I know it's way OT, but I know you all have diverse interests and may be able to point me the right way. I have to do a research paper for my history class and out of the "suggested" topics, the only one that interests me is the Meiji Restoration and its role in Japan's WWII entry...

Thanks everyone! I think the illustrations in my book are from the 1405 manuscript. Looking at James's page, I think I'm aiming for the first decades of the 15th century, French I suppose, given I am really drawn to the styles in Phebus and St Dennis.

Clothing from The Hunting Book of Gaston Phebus

Greetings all, I really like the clothes that the dog handlers and huntsmen are wearing. I picked up a copy of the aforementioned book from Ebay, based on some line drawings in Mary G. Houston's book on medieval costume m The preface to my copy of Phebus is not specific on when that particular manus...

I think you may want to lengthen the wolf snout. In the image above it looks more bearlike than wolflike. Not that I think that's bad, as bear is my personal beast, you did say you were going for a wolf. I think that making the bascinet with a wolflike visor is a aesthetically pleasing to our modern...

http://freywild.ch/i33/i33en.html The I.33 manuscript is from the 1200s. It looks like the bucklers in the manuscript images are wood and metal, not completly metal. Completly metal bucklers are a post mid 14th century development, I think.

The problem you have is the Romans did not use arm and thigh protection very much. Now for arms, there are some things called manica m thought by some to have developed as a response to the Dacian falx, a two handed chopping weapon. Thighs are bit more problematical, since Romans seem to rely on the...

With artificial sinew, I always give the knot a quick pass with a lighter to keep it from slipping.

I have seen two major criticisms about C&T: 1. It's too dangerous to hit people with steel 2. People don't hit hard enough Obviously, both viewpoints can't be right. So here's your chance - I only ask the following when you comment: Have you seen C&T? Lately? Is it permitted in your area? I...

Well, for starters, it's not Roman. It's a poor SCA copy of the Gjermundbu Viking era helmet, which is dated from sometime in the 800s. That makes it at least 400 years too late for a Roman wear. From the picture, I'd say it is a round helmet, and most humans have oval heads, so it will fit poorly. ...

As some of you may have noticed by my posts, I have been in search of a good armoured appearence for a long time.
