Anyone know who the squire on the left of the picture is or who made the helmet? That's almost exactly what I'm looking for in a new helm. You can PM me to avoid further derailment.

Thanks,

As several people have posted, in the SCA the sword is the tournement weapon used by the vast majority of fighters. Our ruleset cancels out many of the mace's advantages while it emphasizes the sword's. That being said, if you find a weapon you like, sometimes you'll do better with it, simply becaus...

They are using mostly arm in the "newbie flail" technique. Most everything is an overarm chop, no crosses, snaps or moulinets. The worst thing I saw was around 2:11 when the guy in the kettle and bevor gets clocked with the centergrip by the guy in a faceplate helm, almost taking him off h...

Essentially a deliberate "draw cut" is no longer needed since there is percussive cuts now. Depending on kingdom, draw cuts may still be legal (they're not in mine, unless part of a documented period system), and they don't appear to be in Drachenwald either. Here are the Drachenwald rule...

It definatly depends on where you live. In some places I've been stationed the local group has had loaner gear, regular practices and mini events and encouraged new folks. Other places, lack of loaner gear, lack of practices, lack of events has kept new folks at a distance. I agree that LARPs, WMA a...

They would have been the men who traded with the Sammi for reindeer and other pelts, right? In the sagas they call the tribute exacted by the Norse from the Sammi "the Lapp Tax" . I think that there is a lot of potential for historic camping and trekking with such a personna.

Are your greaves splints? They look great. The thing I noticed first about your body armour was the .........bulbousness (is that a word?) I don't know if it's because of the barrel plastic or because of the design, but it seems more rotund than most I've seen.

Sweet looking helmets. The design work looks sort of arabesque, maybe they are Spainish?

In regards to finding designs, look in at tiles, tapestries, chests and decorative frescoes from the period. It should give you an idea what aesthetic was popular at the time.

14C English terms for Soldiers

On the website I showed in an earlier post, you can search thier soldier database by name. Just for grins I plugged in Michael and came up with about 150 hits.
