I blame Tim Newark and Angus McBride. Before I joined the SCA, I picked up a book called Celtic Warriors, a broad overview of Celtic military history (I know, I know, but I was 22 ok) On the cover is a gallowglas in maille and bascinet with a nice two handed sword. From that day on, I've really want...

It is also a matter of transistion and evolving tactics. Renaissance commanders knew the capabilities of the armoured lancer against infantry and especially other cavalry. The pistoleers were a new thing and the tactics to use them had to be devoloped. Until they were considered reliable and produce...

I'm also looking forward to our kingdom allowing us to use the hanwei hand and a half sword for C&T. You think that would happen? Sweet! Alchem makes some nice longsword trainers as well. Here in Ansteorra, I've spoken with the KRM at some events and most of the C&T is focused on the Bologn...

Hanwei's Federschwert for Cut and Thrust?

Does anyone know if Hanwei's federswchert has been tried in SCA cut and thrust? Here's a link from the CAS/Hanwei website:

Maciejowski Bible infantry gambeson/aketon questions

Has anyone made a fabric armour like in this iconic image from the Mac bible? Or seen a pattern for a similar one?http://www.medievaltymes.com/courtyard/images/maciejowski/leaf10/otm10ra&bdetail5.gif
Would the proper term be gambeson or aketon? Or are they interchangable?

Thanks!

I'm with Signo here. Some of you jumped all over this guy with zero attempt at constructive criticism. That being said, it is a completely fantasy design. The helm looks vaguely Japanesish, as do the greaves and the vambraces. The body armour is vaguely European Renaissance. If you like the helm the...

Cool video, It looked like your opponent was letting you snipe at him. Your sword was honger than his, but he stayed out of his range, but in yours. On longer swords, my sweet spot is about 3 1/2 inches from the tip, so the padding never made a difference in whether a tip shot would stick or not. Unlike the duke in the video, I can't open with a thrust. I'm sure it...

To be honest, you may be asking too much of your amour. From just the SCA perspective, a helmet that is good and legal for armoured combat would be too heavy for rapier and sidesword, more'n'likely. For the steel combat, you can actually have a helmet that is good for both, provided it meets the ste...
