Have you tried to use the google translation function? m The translation will be very rough, it translates everything literaly, with little regard for grammar. Here's an example from Markt-Falkenstein's webpage: As a cure-contributory guest you keep the BayerwaldCard falcon stone free starting from ...

My personal vision is much more influenced by all the Romantic ideals than the actual ideals of the Medieval Era. I admit that. I am too much a modern American to do more than play at being a medieval nobleman. I may have a sense of entitlement( as many Americans of my generation are accused of havi...

The Strasbourg altarpiece (mid 14th cent) has a soldier with a side strapped round. Of course it could be an anachronism because he's supposed to be a Roman. Though he is wearing normal German style armour. There are some Italian frescoes that show militia with side strapped ovals and a good represe...

The quest for real armour
Hi all, I've come to a decision regarding my SCA armour. I want it to be real armour. I don't like having to hide my body armour under a surcote, though I do like the long surcote. I don't want folks who come the demos to think that medieval soldiers wore big leather kidney belts. I'm willing to let...

For me, SCA combat finally got rid of my need to prove that I was no longer the chubby 11 year old who cried when he got stuffed into the gym locker. When I got bigger, I didn't become a bully, but I certainly did use my size to intimidate and provoke. I had a firm grasp on the a-hole ball. I enjoye...

Von Sussen may have what your friend wants, or near enough to never mind.
http://sussen.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page2.html
It's a norse conical with an nasal, not a spangenhelm, but it is stainless.
I've bought stuff from Karl before. Fast hipping, goods are always as advertised, but YMMV.

Here's the effigy I'm talking about
I scanned the effigy from Nicolle's book and posted it below. The book dates it 1320-1330. I prefer the long surcote to the shorter one that becomes popular on the continent in the 1330s, so that's why I picked this effigy. With all the fancy details on the limb armour, I'm assuming it's tooled or e...

Great link, Randall! I'll have to start combing the web for some simple coat of plate patterns, then I can make some mock ups. Adam, I was toying with the idea of heavy fabric for a CoP. The heat here in West Texas is brutal during the summer and I think armour that is even a little breathable will ...

Body Armour for 1320?
There is an English effigy in Nicolle's Big Green Book of Everything Cool 1050-1350 from around 1320. The knight wears a bascinet with an Italian style drape and aventail, tooled rebraces, knees and greaves and padded cuisses. He has a long surcote. His body protection is going to be maille with som...

Re: Leather bags, big ones?
I am racking my brain to think of where I saw big leather bags that looked "duffley" Ãn some period art. I'm thinking of ones taht sort of look like a blanket roll, with buckles, or a giant map case. Go to page 9 at m (though there's a few others in that article too). That's the exact ba...

Leather bags, big ones?
Hi all, My mother in law sent me some wonderfully distressed leather, it used to be her chaps for endurance riding. I had thought to use it to make a jerkin that was pre-aged, but I'm to big around for that. I was looking at the leather laying on the floor and I thought "That looks like a duffl...

What's the historical reference for the helm? where/when/who? I'd think anyone who can whip up a welded bascinet should have no trouble with that one. The helmet is called the Lough Heney helmet, after the place in Ireland where it was found. It is 14th/15th century, probably of local manufacture. ...

Looking for someone who could make this helm
Not that it is a difficult pattern, but I am looking for a helm in stainless (not mirror finished) based off the Lough Henney helm, like in the attached pictures. It would be for SCA combat. I'm not in a rush, I have a servicable helm now, but this would be my objet de desire, so to speak. Thanks fo...

I found this picture from a Swedish group's site. Looks like what you were talking about, Irish. No hinged cheeks or buff. Waffenrock and helmet?
Greetings, I have a plan to upgrade my harness to that of a Landsknecht officer in the mid 16th century. Would a waffenrock be appropriate for that time? I'm want to use the rock to coven the blatant SCAisms of my harness until I can replace them. Would a burgonet be appropriate with a waffenrock? O...

The two big things that jump out at me are the ABS and the boots. The ABS should be covered with leather and riveted to look like splinted arm and leg harness. Some spats to cover the combat boots and your kit would look much better. Perhaps I'm missing something. The text description states that t...
