I thought so too, but the doublet in the top painting seems to be longer than most, going past the natural waist, to the top of the thighs.

Hmmm, have to expirament.

Pattern for man from Caravaggio painting?

Here's a painting from Caravaggio called Fortune Teller. What's the guy wearing? I've seen similar clothing in other paintings of the period, but I can't tell if it's a doublet or more of a coat/jerkin. Does anyone know of a pattern that would work to make this?

Thanks,

Michael

Good book about Sir Thomas Malory

m My wife picked this book up from the library for me. It's a biography of Sir Thomas Malory, the gentleman who wrote La Morte Darthur. In addition to discussing the circumstances around the writting of La Morte, it's a good look into the life of the gentry and lower nobility of the Wars of the Rose...

What's this guy wearing? Renaissance Dutch

This is a detail from a Breughel the younger painting called The village Lawyer, ca 1600. What do you think he's wearing? Is it a sleaveless buff coat? Some sort of cassock? It looks like it's being worn over just a shirt, so I was thinking it would be good for summer wear.

Hello all, Does anyone know where I can find pictures or references to Renaissance belt fittings, buckles, jewelry, purses and general bling? I like to balance in the middle, but lean towards authentic. My current kit is based of off an English effigy from 1325ish. I fight in a bascinet with a camail, the helm has a grill, because the effigy has an open face helm, and I've always fought with a grill. My body armour is a body bracelet over...

The black and white 3/4 harness is indeed what I'm thinking of. I've always liked them, even when I was more interested in 14th century or the Migration era. Now that I'm going the Ren route, it's a good goal. I'm thinking of starting as a Scottish Border foot lowne with mostly hidden armour and wor...

Hi all, Once again, I am interested in another period, mid to late 16th century northern Europe. I've always liked the black and white half armour and doublets and muskets (oh my), so I figured I'd give it a go. In the hopes of not reinventing the wheel, is there anyone else out doing Renaissance he...

Later on into the 16th century, they did wear burgonet looking helms. In the 14th and 15th century they wore gear like the illumination I linked...

Well, since I'm 6'3", I can't duck under most blows anyway :-). I understand what you are saying though. One of the loaner helms we had in Germany was a very tall great helm, on normal sized folks it was a falt snap magnet. This fantasy piece by James Arlen caught my eye as a good compromise.

Lough Henney Helm?

Hi all,
Do you know of anyone who has made or bought a helm patterned after the Lough Henney helm? I've attached a pic of it and a link to the manuscript drawing I think it resembles. I'm just putting together a wish list for SCA stuff and this is the style helm I like.
