If I had one day to see the usual tourist sites of Paris and another to see armour, would you suggest picking one of those museums or attempting to do both in one day? I would sya that you...

Bascinet treatments?
Were bascinets ever blued, blackend or painted? I know that great helms, chapel de fer and sallets were painted, russeted blackend and such, but I don't know if bascinets ever were.
Thanks!

Looking for pics of the Hans Haberkorn effigy
Hi all, Osprey's German Medieval Armies cites the Hans Haberkorn effigy from the Mainz cathedral as a source for an illustration of a German knight wearing a scale skirt and breastplate instead of a fauld and breastplate. The book claims this was somewhat common in the eastern Empire. I googled and ...

Great European Reenactment Website
I found this site while googling for a padded aventail pattern. http://www.bagrit.pl/bractwa/bractwa.php?lg=en
It's a Polish site with pictures, links and articles pertaining to reenactment. Made me homesick, it did.

Osprey has a book, Medieval German Armies 1300-1500, that has some good ideas and source information. Also David Nicolle's Big Green Book, formally called Arms and Armour of Crusading Era, Wester Europe and the Latin East. Tons of line drawings taken from effigies, manuscripts and bas-reliefs. The reason I want to make the behkter go over the maille is I only have one maille shirt and I want to keep it intact for doing other impressions, like a pancerni cossack or a crusader serjeant. I do have some extra maille from where I trimed the maille shirt from thigh to hip length. Maybe I can us...

Ideas on how to make a behkter inspired armour?
I've attached a pic of my inspiration for an Eastern European flavoured armour. I say inspired because I don't want to make it so that it is attached/part of the maille shirt. I do want to make so I can wear it over a maille shirt for demos and high class tourneys. I suppose the body will maybe use ...

It all depends on your area of interest. In Munich there is Pergamon museum, chuck full of ancient Greek statuary. The Alte Pinotek has tons of paintings from the middle ages. For most armour geeks, transitional harnesses are those that combine both maille and plate elements in abundance. For instance, in the attached pic, the reenactor is wearing a full maille shirt under the coat of plates and arm harness. Think 14th century. Other examples include early 14th late 13th ...

Maybe not lamellar, but scale over mail was used. Osprey's Knight of Outremer has a reference to a joust ran on Cyprus where the combatants worn scales over their mail. Sicilian, Spanish and Italian artwork from the same time period show a few knights in scale and mail. Not a common armour, but it w...

What about a short axe in the off hand? All my books are still in boxes, but I know that in medieval Japan, axes both long and short were used.
