Mr. Cross, I have a few questions concerning your amour. If you would like to reply privately that is fine. My first question is when lining the helmets with sheep wool the way that you do, isn't that really hot and unbreathable, compared to the linen linings that I have seen? Is there a particular ...

Rhys, Thanks this is a big help. Ok wall the ball is rolling. The newcomers meeting that I mentioned is going to have a few new fighters as well, several of them female I have been told. Now the attitude I have heard is "most fighters like to go early period so that they do not have to worry too muc...

Tom, I would very much like to see a picture of it. My personal opinion is that I am not to fond of the overall look, but if it is well made armour that is a different story. And what I am really after. The just kinda rubs me oddly with the only true game in town bit. Anyways. I do have more questio...

Ok David has a great way of helping get the SCA in the right direction. Since I am going to be hosting a newcomers meeting here in Reston VA, does anyone else have any other ideas? The main theme is persona building. Always open to suggestion. Rhys, Suggestions on how the SCA could enforce even the ...

Rhys, The SCA has never ever been anything but a LARP. The SCA cannot and will not be a LH group of the same level as say The Red Company, simply because these requirements are not mandated by SCA corporate laws. If the BOD decided to incorporate strict and clearly defined standards, I would be one ...

I am just wondering. He seems to place a considerable emphasise on historical accuracy while stating that he is the only real deal in town. But when I look at the picks of his armour in action. Or the helmet liners he uses compared to Robert Mcpherson, I get a little thrown off. Blankensheild Armour...

Anyone ever heard of them? Speficially not asking in conjunction with SCA combat.

Murdock, Of course you can use your truck. This is a sport right? So it does not matter, so long as we get you out on the race track as fast as possible. You can always upgrade your car later. But hey your truck is lighter than those cars. And if you cover it with a tabard it will be ok. And if you ...

What is the worst armour you ever saw? Not talking just because it was plastic or historical inaccurate. I mean butt ugly. Example: http://www.tournamentproductions.org/photos/esc00/ecs00001.jpg These guys may be real good but some of their armour is just ugly to me. ------------------ "As long as t...

At Ponte Alto there were a couple of folks in leather scale mail. It was rather interesting to look at but historically questionable for me. Well yes. SCA is a LARP, but it is not a sci fi fantasy larp. Think of it as being in "A Knight's Tale" or "Princess Bride" compared to say "Legend" or "Lord of the Rings" That is why there are smaller groups that spawned from the SCA in the first place. The SCA as a whole does not recognize and dis...

Current Middle Ages or SCA Guidelines
After reading all of the various posts and arguements on this, and other boards, I put my thougts on all of it into one. So here is Winterfell's guide to dealing with the SCA: 1. The SCA is a LARP. Just because there isn't magick does not make it any less of a LARP. Just deal with it. 2. The SCA is ...

These guys are out of the Check republic.
I am interested in their rapiers, not too much the armour. Anybody know anything about them?

Oh and in anser to your questions. Yes the German petigry would be concievable. You are setting it up as a marriage contract for a basic rent a knight, and heading off to the border marches of England/Scotland where there would be work a plenty sounds feasable too. Cool. I have a long way to go. My helm seems to be the biggest issue for me. (Just replaced it.) Ok for all of the pro plastic folks: Let's say that 10 years down the line the SCA stops using metal armour entirely.
