All medieval groups sound off
I have seen a number of groups mentioned on this board and have seen some of their websites or contact info mentioned, but rather than go through long posts to find a listing here and there could everyone post the contact information of the group you belong to? Looking for name, website, email, and ...

Something I would like to note about fighting. There are times when the fighter (like said girl) makes the choice of taking the punishement. From the original description I found myself thinking, yeah! go girl. She came back again and again. To me she really took the honour of the field. And when it...

Unfortunately when I was at Leeds I was not able to see the original manuscript, but it looks like a fine quill was used. The years have also not been kind to the original, hence the creases and damgaged pages, even when I scanned them and they were at 1100 x 2200 the lettering is still barely readi...

And remember you asked for it. The Images that I have are a larger clearer version than what is on the ARMA site. They are black and white because they were photocopied at the Leeds Library. So the lines that you see are creases and such from the book. I wish they were in color. Here is the link: ht...

Stick jock - person who fights with rattan and usually spends more on his armour than his courtly garb, and may frown upon.... You are probably going to hear some folks really bash the clements books, I have read both books, his rapier and his medieval one. For some folks who decide to do long or great sword fighting styles, the only information they can usually get is that of kendo. So they adapt those techniques to SCA combat. However now that more fight manuals are being translated, studied and even published, the trend is heading towards a more eur...

Giles, The way that you describe the type of armour, yes I would say that a wrap shot would be pretty nasty business, even with a sword. Murdock, "Besides if armour failed so easy, why wear it?" Cause it looks cool! Seriously I do not think that armour failed easily, but for every type of armour tha...

Old Castle (SCA topic)
With the seemingly growing trend for more authenticity in SCA combat, is "Old Castle" still used and encouraged? As I recall the positions for that style were pretty awkward and not very effective.
Any thoughts?

My personal opinion is why bother with plastic in the first place. From some of the posts it seems that a mostly plastic kit is not all that much cheaper than metal, and the weight does not seem to be much of a factor, which leaves movement and looks. So does plastic give greater movement? Maybe may...

But is plastic armour proof against archers? (Sorry just had to add that.) Well since SCA is not a history reenactment group per se anyways, what you want to wear when you fight in this sport is up to you. Just please cover it with something, anything except a carpet. I prefer steel myself. --------...

Is Rhys wrong? Not 100% But then nobody is perfect. I think the problem boils down to that he needs to just print his thoughts on the subject at hand and refrain on the personal jibes and comments. That is what seems to be really ticking folks off. (I don't think I need to cite examples.) On the oth...

Just a couple of things. One: Rhys is correct, grabbing the opponents blade has been documented and it can work in close quarters combat. The trick is that you a.) do not let your grip slip at all. And b.) that you do this only when you are locked in with your opponent. Don't go grabbing the blade t...

What I am curious about, is how Rhys handles people in person. Do you, Rhys, give people as much a hard time in person as you do on a electronic board? And while I am at it, how do you, who is such an authenticity afficianado deal with the run of the mill SCA, in their cotton or poylfiber T-tunics a...

Rhys, I am so sure that you are doing the SCA a BIG FAVOR by slamming into some guy who is just starting out and clearly stating his own opinion. It is that exact attitude that you have that gives the SCA a bad name in the first place. The SCA is not the best, brightest, most historically accurate g...

Do you realize that even if your view is not unique it is the rhino hiding and the lack of honor on the field that causes these problems which the SCA face? If you take 1000 fighters, and at any given time 80 of them rhino hide, there is still a problem. I do not think it is the same ratio in the SC...
