There is a statue of St. George in Barcelona from 1430 that shows a plackart. It is smaller that the style that Icefalcon sells., maybe a quarter of the height. As the 15th century continued the plackart continued to rise higher until it was no longer neccessary. The styles that Ice Falcon have are ...

Not to derail this thread, but I do not agree, (except maybe the snapping of the crest thing.) The battles of Bannock Burn, Stirling Bridge, Veinour (sp), and Barnet to name a few, are replete with tales of "dirty tactics"

In many battles they did not do that sort of stuff.

If it were successful I would buy stock in Alchemy Armory.

(note aside from the fact his stuff is plastic, I think it is pretty neat looking.)
Audiences would get bored.
That being said....

Great book. The author definetly has done his homework, specifically mentions what are assumptions and what are facts and why . I thought it was a novel at first, silly me, but as Gwydion says a real page turner. I read it in a couple of days. This is one of the last cases where trial by combat beca...

Well this is a step in the right direction. The Society Marshal instructed the Society Rapier Marshal to shut down the sidesword experiment for a complete rewrite of the rules, training, etc. He feels the experiment had entered an unsafe mode; parties interpreted the rules so differently and usage w...

I saw both of the shows. The Weapons that made Britain show how some of the arrows could penetrate at certain distances, but that a padded gambeson and mail hauberk underneath were still fine. Mike Loades also pointed out that it was the horse that got most of the damage, stopping charges and messin...

I have heard of the technique being referred to as the "Iron penis". You can find it in Frano de Liberi's "Flos de Denti". (Franco was was Fiore's younger smarter brother.) Hell if we're going for cheese - When you have your opponent legged, get in tight and give him a hard thrust to the face/chest/...

hmmmm I would certainly buy a fully loaded one, with rattan et al. I've sent some pics via e-mail to Paul and if he could post them that would be great. Gladiator combat not to the death
I have heard of this before, so I do not think it is a new theory, but interesting anyways. m Key points • New theory says Gladiators were pampered stars not abused slaves • Gladiators earned so much from sport that Emperor capped their salaries • Study of 158 images of combat show...

As far the guy on fire is concerned, I thought I had a tough time blackening my mail hauberk. As far as SCA combat rules and Marshall regulations go, it normally follows what I call the "Most Common Idiot Factor". Just because James B. and I can go full speed with steel, move to disarm and grappling...

I have one of the heart shaped basket hilts, and for the most part I have liked them, but they are heavier and and I can not adjust my grip easily. I tried using a cross hilt, but with the full gauntlets I was not getting a good grip, so it would mess up my throwing. Currently I am using one of the ...

If that is the general point of it, then I would be even more interested in side sword, if it comes back. As that is something I have done before. Just my two cents into the ring as well. As much as I had high hopes for the side sword experimentation I did not have high expectations of it going very far. First you have the Most Common Idiot Factor. Essentially the SCA has never had any uniform training and authorization standards. As such, the...
