I would like to see: A specific viewing area for the companions of the combatants. A helmet show or progress. A barrier fight. A counted blows fight. An open field with matched weapons. Preferably a toning down of sword and shield, because I kept hearing how much fun people were having with differen...

I know what you mean. Concerning His Grace Ragnarr, The few times that I have seen and met him have always been great. He has ever been curtious and the very example of chivalry. At Saphire, as just one small example of his grace he asked my Courtney persmission to fight me. I am not saying in any s...

How did they drill holes in armour?
I spent the better part of an afternoon putting holes in various armour bits for rivets, and after an hour I started wondering how armourers did it without power tools. Especially with all the talk of how later armour is supposed to be akin to spring steel. Anybody have any info on this? Purely curi...

I had an absolute blast at the event! Unfortunately at the beginning I came in 20 minutes past the start of the great weapons tourney on Saturday, which started on time, because somebody decided to be efficient. However I did manage to get in a some matches at the barrier during the Pas at the end o...

Re: fencing question
Q: is the length of pull to lose the hand 6" like a draw cut? Yes. Q: if you are wearing a mail glove instead of a leather glove will you still lose the hand?Do the rules differ for mail lined or full mail gauntlets? As far as I lnow there are no specific guantlets rules, all fencers are considered ...

Not cheap but at least you can ask some armourers if they can make it better.
The "waffle" grill bascinet is another I have seen in contemporary illustrations.

Ow! Damn clue by fours. Well I feel a bit like Homer Simpson. Yeah but waht about the shoulders? Should you still point them through the mail? Shoulder plate pieces - Spaulders and pauldrons, often ought point very close to the base of the neck. Either point through maile there or don't. It depends ...

Wait a minute. If you do not have enough information yet, then why do you assume the best or worst on the onset. Has it ever occurred to you that most "kneejerk" reactions on this board usually start four posts in? Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps you need not react at all? Or do you enjoy b...

Funny that. I justed posted a simple question on the "Armour" part of the Armour Archive. I felt a little foolish asking such a basic question, how do you strip galvanized metal. I recieved a number of responses. All of them well thought out, and none of them degrading. I posted that question becaus...

galvinized metal
I have a set of mail that is galvinized and I want to make it less shiney.
The mail is riveted and I am looking for options such as blackening, stripping the galvanization off, etc.
What would be considered the best, with pros and cons?

What I usually see as impediments to "looking the part" are: Ignorance, plain and simple. Most people just do not know any better. Trust. You may be an authority on period textiles, but if someone trusts another, who is not as knowledgable as you, it is an up hill battle. Tenacity.<...

And wash your hands, and make sure the women have water on a hot day, and make silly poses in photos with them. So Jeff says, "Come join our group." And I say, "Why?" And he says, "Because we have pretty armour and neat weapons." And I say, "And..." And he says, "And you can dress us up in proper ho...
