Regarding MTT in general; It was a complete blast. I always enjoy going about to the other groups and see what they are doing and talking to them as well. The public, to me, makes it even more worth while. Every one there was nice and there was a lot more interaction between various groups of people...

Ok substitute Mild steel for stainless. What I see and hear a lot of is, people stopping at the looking the part or knowing stuff that pertains to just thier "persona" or simply "war" I study historical combat manuals as well, and participate in Western Martial Arts revival, but my study does not st...

Living History Reenactor standards
Chef brought this up rather well in another thread and it is a screaming pet peeve of mine. m So if you participate in "Living History" which do you feel is better: To try to look like a 15th C painting come to life, or to try to know what life was really like in the 15th C? (15th C is just an examp...

Pennsic: Historic Combat Series and Seminars?
Does anyone know if there will be a Historic Combat Series this year at Pennsic?
I am also wondering if Christian Tobler and/or Brian Price will be hosting their seminars this year there too.

When keeping it real goes wrong: It was just another ordinary SCA event, as Jenseny walked towards the fighting field to join his melee team, when he heard, "Hey nice kit." Jenseny could have simple nodded and continued on, but instead he decided to "keep it real." "Nice kit? Nice kit! I keep it rea...

I'll see what I can dig up. The Di Crapio version was pretty bad over all, but then I enjoy Ian McKellan's Richard III, Anthony Hopkins' Titus Andronicus and Kenneth Brannaghs' Hamlet. The Shakespear company in DC usually does their productions in somewhat modern dress. Thier productions of Henry VI...

I'll have to double check, but I believe that most of his plays were performed in then modern clothing, regardless of what timeframe the play was set in. If that was truly the case, then so called "modern interpretations" are actually more in line with Elizabethan theater. In general though I am not...

Arms: The vambraces are buzbands, which would be ok, but someone added "wings" to either side so that the elbow would have more protection, so now you can't move the arm in any direction other than straight up and down. The rear brace wraps completely around the bicep, restricting flexing com...

Lack of basic armour knowledge rant
I was not quite sure where to put this and I wanted to make special note that this has nothing to do with Armourers on this board. But.. Just how much research do people put in before working on armour for the SCA? I am not talking about just peolpe who make kits from scratch but also people who "fi...

MTT 2003: Flonzy and I were performing some freestyle sparring for the History Channell who was filming some "pick up" shots. We started with swords but when we got to grips Flonzy knocks me down and pulls out a rondel dagger and stabs it into the ground right next to my neck. (For the camera angle ...

Yeah I would have to agree with that. A friend of mine was at a fighter practice and was being taught how to do flat snaps and wrap shots. When it was showed to me, I could see what that does to the rotator cuff. *shudder* The general problem with those types of blows, is that your rotator cuff will...

Was that the SEM that said that? I thought it was just the Pennsic MIC. Well there may have been a "war against face thrusts" but that did not stop someone from charging into my helm full force with their spear at the first castle battle. Oh well. You mean the SEM who said something along the lines ...
